Just looking for some feedback on buffing out and polishing clear plastic (like lenses, radio faces). I think I remember seeing a plastic polishing kit in Eastwoods catalog or somewhere else that came with different grit polishing compounds and the like. Has anyone ever tried doing this with any luck? I have wet sanded clear headlight lenses that have yellowed and sprayed them with automotive clear coat before, which actually worked quite well, but I would like to find an easier way to clean up clear plastic. |

I perform this task with great results on horn buttons & taillights quite often. I use a high speed grinder (2000rpm) with a polishing foam pad to achieve the desired shine. Be careful though, the part(s) can easily be burned just as easy as a painted surface _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

McGuires has a line of products for restoring plastic (polycarbonate) finishes. Auto paint stores tend to carry that. I've also buffed small plastic parts like tail lites with buffing and polishing compounds to remove scratches/haze using a cotton wheel on a bench grinder. I don't recommend that method as its very easy to burn plastic by buffing it. _________________ NTHANG, LLC |
