This topic is to create a place in which to find step by step engine builds, both performance and stock based.

So I pretty much want to create a list of forum engine builds-either ongoing or completed, that proceeded in a step by step build up, because I feel there is much information from those builds, stock, performance, and whatever.

NCdad's - 1955cc / 1956cc Engine Build
Altewagen-Grapes of Wrath $200 engine rebuild
Maboyce-Stock 1600 DP rebuild, step by step
skills@eurocarsplus-My attempt at a 1904
Miniman's-Turbo/EFI on a Budget
Wheelie Pete -86x86 Build Thread
Steven G.-My Okrasa 1300 Build Thread

If you know of a build, link it, whether its a performance build in the performance forum, or a stock build in another forum; the basis of an engine build is the same and you can learn as much from a stock build as from a performance build.

I am rebuilding a 1600 dual port engine. Does anyone have any advice to ensure that the parts that I purchase are made from quality materials and are of high quality specifications. I appreciate that quite often you get what you pay for but also on occasion a premium price doesn’t always provide quality. As I am not a machinist or mechanic by trade I am a little bit in the dark here. Guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration

There you go!
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Copper-Exhaust-Flange...askets.htm
When it comes time to remove the exhaust. Just heat the gaskets red hot with a Mapp Gas torch and let um cool. Then reuse the gaskets.
I have them on the same setup that you have described. They work great.

Good Luck.

Ok guys, need some expert advice. I am on the fence as to what engine to build for my baja. I have been leaning towards a 1904 or a 2007. I would like to know what you guys and gals think for best economy and power for a daily driver. If there is another combination, please advise and why. Thanks again for all of your knowledge. Oh, l most forgot. I live in North Central Arkansas with a lot of hill driving.
