Hello Everyone,
I finally got tired of waiting for a volksrod room, and posting my project here.
The Body___________________________________________________
I have alot of the work done, but I swear the last 10% takes 90% of the time, lol. I gave it a 5 inch chop, put in new pans. Welded some louvers into the hood ( I don't recommend anyone do that). Recessed some 51' Oldsmobile tail lamps into the decklid. Painted it with some Rustoleum flat, and Satin. Decided to put some gasser style plexi into it for that vintage feel. Headlights are via a WW2 chevy militray truck. Turn signals I think may be from cab lights from a B model Mack Semi truck. I Filled the radio opening on the dash.
The Suspension______________________________________________
I decided to try just reversing the front suspension instead of making a beam extender. Re-clocked the springs lower on the front beam.I need to install high clearance ball joints yet. Steering is handled by a manual Mustang II rack. I had to re-drill the tapered holes from the other direction, and make them larger to fit the larger Mustang ball joints. I was a bit concerned that the camber was going to get weird, so I made a pie cut in the front horn and welded it shut. This laid the suspension back nicely, and lowered the hood line down where it need to be at the same time.
Transmission________________________________________________
Started with the original swingaxle. I took the trans apart and welded up the cones on 3rd, and 4th syncrows. Installed a superdiff. Put a beefy sideplate on it. Thats it. I think the trans is a bit weak for what im building...time will tell. Please let me know what you all think?
Engine_____________________________________________________
My first performance build on a VW. Building a 2110. Currently in progress. I have two new John Deere generator turbo chargers that I am going to attempt to use in a twin turbo setup. The turbos are designed with only lubrication, no coolant required. Decided to go with the 90.5 cylinders to help with heat, also going to ceramic coat the pistons top and combustion chambers. Using an Engle w110 camshaft. Larger heads with stainless swirl valves, forget right now what ones exactly.GEX something or nother 40x35.5 with dual springs, ported and polished. Chromemoly pushrods. Straight cut timming gear to reduce sideload. Let her make noise! extended sump. large oil pump, remote filter.
I currently have it spaced and shimmed to a static 8:1 with a dynamic 10.1:1 @ 6lbs of boost, Thinking a tune with a 10lb wastegate will put me at 12.75:1 for a strip setup with some race gas. BUT, I currently have a problem.
My Intakes are hitting the pistons with 1:1 ratio rockers. I really want the compression where it is to help the thing out of the hole for street driving. So, I'm going to pocket relieve the pistons around the Intakes for clearance. I'm a bit nervous to remove piston material on a boost car, but it seems from a little digging a bit of clearancing is no prob. Please , any input here would be greatly appreciated. Once thats done. I need to fab some turbo induction tubes to feed a single holley 2 barrel that I still need to pressure port the throttle bushings on.
The PIC_____________________________________________________
Taken at the 2013 MOFOCO Bugfest at the historic Greatlakes Dragaway in Kenosha, WI.
Had the get her out of the garage, even with out the motor done.
