I finally brought the car home yesterday, and while just walking around it and looking i have a few questions (and im sure there will be more lol)

First off, i thought most typ 4's had an auto-stick transmission, but mine has a normal automatic, could this be stock?

Second, where would i get windshields and window seals for them? ( i figure pretty hard, being that this is only the 2nd typ 4 i have ever seen)

Third, as looking through some of there threads on here i've noticed talk of the front suspension. What is the big issue with it? Is there much the same with a super beetle susp. or none at all?

Sorry if some of the questions are dumb, but i had to ask Embarassed

Welcome to the forum, we love to see pics of your car!

Trying to answer your questions:

-Most US cars are normal auto stick.

-As far as I know the only windshields available are used ones, seals may fit from some other VW-car (the same generation bus?) think there is written about this on the forum somewhere....make a search...

-There is a LOT written on the forum about the front end, a few parts are in common with the superbeetle. Ray is one of the gurus on the forum on this, here is one topic about it:

Hi,

welcome to the type 4 group.
What do you have? 2-door, 4-door, Variant?

Please post photos.

1)If you have a normal stick, congratulation. Mostly US type 4 have auto. Both of my VW 411 have manual shift.

2)this guy sells VW 411/412 seals.

3) Many dealer have type 4 parts, but don't offer them. The community is very small. Ask for parts and use thesamba, ebay, ... worldwide.

To now I found every part I needed for my cars.

greetings Lutz

These cars came with full autos or stick. In NA, esp America, stick was more rare, and the full auto very normal. In Canada, I have a split number of autos and sticks.

That would be great. Some harder to find parts on the '71's compared to '72-'74 but not many. Most Type 4's sold in NA were Variants.

Looks pretty good, but you should pull out All the old carpets. There might be some 'surprises' under them? Get it running with the single carb, but you could put dual Webers on it that fit under the engine lid later with some work/money. Twisted Evil

well.. it appears i have bit off more than i could chew with this project.

None of the wiring is correct nor seems anything going to the engine.

Also isnt the battery supposed to be under the drivers seat?

The battery should be situated under the driver's seat, but I have a '74 parts car where the battery is under the passenger seat. Do you need a wiring harness for the car? I think my '72 has a good one.

My 1971 had the battery under the front passenger seat. Top speed was 85 mph.
