|
|
A couple people have recently asked for a dedicated Classifieds section for Tools and/or Shop Equipment.
I'm skeptical as this is not strictly VW-related and could end up with a lot of random junk in it.
Currently Tools should be placed in the "Other VW-related" section.
Opinions?
A put up a poll too, for those people who want to vote but not post. A majority of yes votes will not necessarily result in the additional of a new section. _________________ How to Post Photos

Sure.
I don't think you would have any more problems with tools then you would any other group as far as random junk. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I think that would be a great idea, as long as the tools pertain ONLY to automobiles (socket sets, micrometers, compression testers, etc . . . ).
The last thing you want is someone trying to sell a tablesaw in that forum. _________________ Suicide is man's way of telling God, "You can't fire me; I quit!" - Bill Maher |

It would certainly clog up the "new adds" last 2 days section with a bunch of crap or junk that you would have to now filter through.
My opinion is no, keep it strictly VW tools only. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

IMHO VW classic world is also special because of *lots* of specific VW tools and operations. I would restrict it to specific classic VW tooling...at the risk of no having ads in ages |

A tool section would be neat .
Everett , you have a point with all the other stuff that might start showing up in this section . where I would say the problem would originate from would be the people that sign up and become a member just so they can sell a bunch of things they got hanging around their garage . and most likely it has nothing to do directly with Volkswagens . Stuff like welders air compressors , ect...
But more designated place for people to buy sell and trade tools that are for VW"s would be a benifit .
Perhaps list it as VW repair tools only .?
That might help ? _________________ If you don't like the way I drive , stay off the sidewalk . |

I love the classifieds. I have sold and patronized other sellers. I'd hate garbage popping up in them too. However I like the idea of a tools section. I'd hope that VW minded folks would upload useful tool ads and our members would quickly bring problems to your attention.
A problem I see is that there are so many garbage tool options out there these days. For a lot of first time VW buyers who find the site...this is there first foray into "shop" work at the house. They could get ripped off so easy and end up with junky tools that could get them hurt, or at least waste their hard earned money. This could happen regardless of whether junk tools were sold in Samba classifieds, but a new VW owner might buy it because it's on "The Samba." We'd have to watch out for bottom feeders. _________________ "Big Fat Momma" - she's slow but she's mine.

on the infrequent occasion that i sell tools here (VW specific, of course), i find it somewhat challenging as to which category to place them in. many tools work on multiple types of VWs, and i know that not everyone searches the site in the same way. i try to list the tool in the "parts" section for whatever type of VW it works on the most, because i think that will generate the most hits and the best chance to sell the item.
a separate tools category would make it easier for listing and searching for those that search by category and might be easier to find tools when searching in case of poor listing titles, descriptions, or spelling.
but i also agree that it could be clogged up with harbor freight type junk. i think the rules would have to be pretty clear that they would need to be VW specific tools, or closely related VW tools like Hazet kits, etc. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

It would be great. A tool section is the one thing the site is missing. You wouldn't have any more problems in a tool section as you do in the parts section. You can't limit just VW tools because what are VW tools???? Where do you put the limit??? Tools are tools. They can be used on any thing including VWs, houses, farm equipment, whatever. So what are you waiting on???? Put up a tool section. You just might like it.

Could you limit the number of ads someone could post in one day or have a total limit? Would that make it easier to manage?
Hey we already have one--- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search

A noobie here:
Sounds like a great idea. To include a suitable welder or air compressor here and there doesn't sound too bad either. I've seen questions about what to and what not to buy when it comes to these very same "tools". I almost bought a Lincoln welder today but (since I'm not a bonafide welder) didn't have a firm idea of what I wanted or really needed. How about a "rule" requiring words like "Genuine VW tool" or similar? Some monitoring required, but it's just an idea. |

I recently had a hanging garage heater that I sold, but I would have given a VW enthusiast a better deal.
Just didn't want to advertise it here because it was non VW. |

I would not really buy much I dont think but would be great to search for VW specific tools. Is there a way to see how many people have done a search for ''vw tools''. _________________ We are a Republic, NOT a Democracy |

I have no intention of adding limits and no, it wouldn't matter. _________________ How to Post Photos

Any chance you might reconsider this (yes, I'm dredging up an almost decade old post). When I sold my lot of VW specific tools, it would have been easier had there been a Tool specific area in the Classifieds, because buyers and sellers would have had one common area to view.
I recently listed a tool in the General Parts forum that qualifies for both air-cooled and water cooled vehicles. Having a Tool forum would make life easier since ads must be in one category only.
I also believe user assisted policing of the Classifieds has improved since 2007 as well. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |
