Thanks! I will blend in the paint this winter.
The story countinues...
We spend the second night at the beach in the south parts of Denmark.
About 2am I waked up. It was the noice of a 2332 and a A1 sidewinder. It was Lasse Mix and Markus joining us with Lasses -52.
They had been driving the whole day and half the night in order to catch up with us.
We spent the third night at a camping in Germany. It was a camping very
close to the Elbe river. But there had been big floodings and a big parts
of
their camping area was under water, so it was hard to get a nice camping
spot.
We left the camping early in the morning. Our plan was to get to Hessisch
in time, to get ourselves and our friends a nice big camping spot.
We had a nice spot, and the following hours our friends droped in. Masen,
the guy with the green barndoor, also made it to Hessisch, but he didnīt
join us in our journey. They went to BBT to join the convoy.
We had a couple of nice days in Hessisch. On sunday, me, Gustaf and our
families left for Saarbrücken in the southwest parts of Germany. Our plan
was to vistit my grandmother a couple of days, and to bring our families
to the airport. They didnīt join us to Pat Performance and Bug In.
As we drove on the Autobahn to Saarbrücken, suddenly the Police showed up.
They went up in front of me, and put on the bluelights and a "follow me"
sign.
As we stopped, The policemen stepped out of their car. One young girl, and
one man with beard and long hair in a ponytail. It was the first time in
my
life, Iīve ever seen a longhaired cop. As both Gustaf and I are long
haired, I hoped for some kind of "brother connection"
The guy went to my bus, unfortunately I couldnīt open my door, as I lost
my inner handle in Hessisch. There was to much moss in the sliding window,
so I couldnīt open that one either. So I had to open the little vent window and speak through that.
The Policemen just said: Hello, your driving license, paperwork of the car
and why do your cars look like this?
I explained to him that our cars just got the swedish MOT and they are
perfectly
welded and thereīs nothing failed. Unfortunately I left the paperwork of my bus in Sweden.
They also didnīt like the fact that I missed the glass in the outside rear view mirrors.
But I explaid that we donīt have to bring the paperwork with us in sweden.
And old cars just need one inner mirror in Sweden.
The girl was annoyed and said, - We're actually in Germany now.
But the guy was nice and friendly and accepted the facts.
They took a look under the cars. My bus hadnīt dripped any oil yet, but
now there was a tiny little spot. The policemen said, - We donīt accept oil
drip, but it was very little, so we let you go.
They wished us a nice travel, and took some pictures before we left.
A few days later I heard the story about Ned and Bobby. So on the way home
I became really nervous everytime a german policecar passed us.
After some days at my grandmother, we left our families at the airport,
and started our journey to Beligium and Pat Performance.
The GPS Navigator showed totally wrong way. After a while the road became really small
We had a great time at Pat Performance Open House.
In the afternoon, we left for Bug In. By now we were a big convoy of
swedes. Three of us didnīt received our prepaid tickets, so our plan was
to be there early to solve the problem.
But at the gates there were big problems. We had printed our receipt to
prove that we'd paid, but that wasnīt good enough. They wanted us to buy
new tickets.
But we refused, why schould we pay again...
At last, one of the two well known head organisers showed up at the gates.
He explained our receipt wasnīt enough, since there was a chance we got
our ticket, and sold them to someone else.
Ok, but still, THEY didnīt prove they sent us any tickets, normaly you do that by sending the customer a tracking number.
But they keep the tracking number by themselves and if they just had taken a look at the tracking number, they would have seen that we didnīt get our tickets.
I tried, come on, we are 10 hardcore vw fans driving three days to get
here, and one of us is even invited to DJ. Donīt you trust us?
But no, we had to buy new tickets. Even to the more expensive "at the
gate" price. But he promised us the money back as soon the tickets showed up.
As he is a well known guy in the vw scené, we trusted him. But now, 6 mounth later, no answer on email and none of us got the money back, so they still owe us 150 euro.
I feel really fucked...
I think we were some of the first visitors of the meeting, ( I got ticket
number 8 ) so we got a nice camping spot.
I had a great time.
The next day I met another friend of mine who was in bad mood. He had prepaid a expensive VIP ticket, but they sent him a ordinary one.....
I found a lot of nice stuff at the swap, so I was lucky my family took a
flight back to Sweden.
I was looking after some American Eagle wide 5 Fuchs. And found a set at
the trade area of Vintage Autohaus. They looked nice, and after I talked
to the owner for a few minutes, and he gave me a proposition.
-Take those wheels with you back to Sweden, and send me a set of swedish JP rims back to me.
I accepted, and took the wheels with me.
Thatīs whats the Vw scene is about. He didnīt even know my name.
Thanks, Chris!!
We started our journey back home on sunday. We were 10 cars in the convoy.
It was a three day drive back home and four of us had problems with their
cars. One starter and two generators were broken, and one bus had a
strange tranny noice.
But we made it all back home.
Iīve done some long trips before. To Hessisch, Bad Camberg, Bug In, Van
Fest, Spain, but this trip was absolutly the best I ever made.
By now I been driven about 8000km (5000 miles) and still no single problem with my bus.
In the end of the summer we had a small Vw meeting in my hometown, called Bad Camber Just 100 cars, but 6 barndoors showed up.
We made a small barndoor lineup, and it became nice pictures as the fog
showed up
This winter I will replace the rear corners, blend in the paint, and get
my 2332 engine and a freeway flyer gearbox in the bus.
Hopefuly it will be ready for the European Barndoor Gathering. |

WOW, That's super cool! I wish I would have known the story when I saw the buses at EBI5! Thanks a lot for sharing the story and photos! What a great trip! AWESOME!
Your 1955 bus is 127 before my bus, maybe made on the same day? My birth certificate says my bus was made Jan 18th 1955...
Here are a couple pictures I took....

Nice story, thank`s a lot for sharing!
I have seen in your gallery that you saved the 53 panel from the wood scrapyard:
Nice to see that it was saved, that first pic got me really into BD panels. Was the desktop background for SOME time
Greetings! |

Thanks!
Yes, thatīs a nice panelvan. I canīt understand why I didnīt save it the first time I saw it. I just bought the engine lid.
As I came back some years later, some guys from the Netherlands had already bought the front clip.
It had been at the scrapyard since the end of the 50ies and they keep their jacks in it.
There are some signwriting under the red paint....
Do you see the white -52 panelvan in the background? Sadly no one saved that one. But it was really bad and it also missed the front clip.
The owner of the scrapyard.
