I found this in a drawer at my mother's house (she's lived there for over 80 years). I'm guessing it's something given out as a promotional item by a dealer.

On the long blade (VW logo side) it reads: J BIERHOFF SOLINGEN
On the other side it reads: ~OSTRE~ MADE IN GERMANY
(The first and last characters are worn down.)

"~OSTRE~"

If you read carefully it is "~OSTFRE~". It means "ROSTFREI" which is the german word for "rustfree".

Best regards from Berlin

I own several of these. I'm not sure if they were a specific dealer item, but you do see variations of this knife quite a bit. I want to say they are mainly from the 70's era, but I could be wrong. They are on ebay and samba for around $75.
