Hey everyone,
I'm curious about the origin of Sprintstar wheels. What year were they first made? Was EMPI the original manufacturer?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to do a period-correct modification on my 1970 Beetle. It doesn't have to look like the year is 1970, but as long as we stay within the 1970-1976 range, we should be fine.
Thanks! _________________ 1970 Volkswagen Beetle "Zippy"

EMPI Sprintstar Wheels were introduced in the late '60's ...
They came in VW Wide 5 & 4 Lug Bolt Pattern, in a variety of widths & offsets from EMPI.
Most were stamped: Lemmertz ... EMPI ...Made in Western Germany ... ET ... Rim Size & Width.
They came painted or chrome.

Sprintstar wheels were produced by Lemmerz, the famous German wheel manufacturer that has supplied many OEM wheels for the past 95 years. Lemmerz stamped the wheels with the "EMPI" name and the date of manufacture, and you can easily find 4-bolt Sprintstars to fit your '70 Beetle.
I've had sets of 4.5" and 5.5" width Sprintstars (the two most common sizes) on my '68 Beetle at various times. There are also wider versions that were popular on dune buggies.
Check out the Sprintstar Registry thread below for further information:
