Yeah it's easy....get a 2.0L with the 5-speed trans out of a MK3 from the junkyard for $200. Every "pull n save" style junkyard in the whole entire United States is chock full of MK3's right now, plus with junkyard motors there's usually a warranty so if it's not good, you can get another.
Best swap ever!! _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

Yup aba 2.0 block would be the most bang for your buck. Then you could go different routes for the head depending what you want. _________________ 1990 lifted 2wd (for now..) Vanagon "Savanna"

Why would you consider a Dodge Stratus motor for your VW ? Like stated...2.0L (ABA) swap is easy, parts are plentiful and inexpensive, and the motor suits the car well. _________________ I love old cars |

Just get a good turbodiesel from a Mk 2 Jetta. They provide acceptable power and great fuel mileage. |
