1600 vw trike ,changed out to Pertronix electronic module kit after fried Compuspark module, after putting in time I started it and it sounded like a rock in a blender. Was told the starter was bad and replaced.Fired it up and the same noise happened. Both times this sound only lasted for a second.Had a brain fart and disconnected distributor and cranked it with no power to the Distributor and it cranked without the rock in a blender sound.Hooked everything back up/tried again and the same sound again.Backed OFF the Distributor and the sound almost went away but it ran like hell, had to keep goosing the throttle to keep it running at red light and it hesitates bad.Think maybe the Kit I have is not compatible?Thinking about going back to points and condenser to see if that totally eliminates it.Any ideas appreciated. |

The Pertronix should be fine - the problem is something else.
Make sure the Pertronix unit is spaced correctly (0.030") off of the rotating "rotor" part, if yours is one of the adjustable ones. Check that the timing is correct. Check that the plug wires are routed to the correct cylinder. Check the sparkplug gap. _________________ 1965 Type 1 sunroof Baja / about 70k miles on self-rebuilt '74 1600 and counting / SP heads and aftermarket valve keepers / non-doghouse shroud with external cooler and filter / 1.5 qt extended sump / Weber 32/36 DFAV progressive carb / 009 dist with Pertronix / 1.25 ratio rockers and ball adjusters / 1.5" stainless steel J-pipes and carbon steel baja exhaust |
