I did a check on the internet and this is the what comes up. Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control 'A' Range/Performance with these as possible things to check.

Possible causes

- Check Quantity Adjuster
- Check Modulator Piston Displacement Sensor
- Check Cold Start Injector
- Check Needle Lift Sensor

Has anyone come across this is the past and corrected the problem??
The car has lost of power on different occasions and then back to normal. It has happened ever 3 months or so.

usually, that code happened in the mk3 cars and was a result of a bad sensor in the pump... however.. if you have had bad fuel, water in the fuel, or general neglect of your fuel filter service intervals I have seen it in the pumps on the mk4 cars..

First I would check with someone who has VAGCOM and can actually view the requested vs actual injection quantity..

If you dont have someone nearby who can do that for you the cheapest parts guessing you can do is a used #3 injector and see if that fixes it..

Checked with a Ross tech cable. I believe that when the motor mount broke the engine dropped and nudged the pump slightly advanced. The Vagcom has shown that the timing is too advanced and out of the envelop and thrown a code. I have watched the Ross tech video on adjusting the pump timing and it is the slightest of non visual moves and the timing jumps massively. So the slightest of nudges on the pump has pushed the injection pump timing too advanced. You need the ross tech cable to see the adjustment so I have ordered one from a supplier in Nova Scotia.

Ok the timing was way too advanced. So I brought it back to within the envelope which took the entire adjustment of the timing gear in the retard direction and the engine light is out now. I'm not sure why the timing moved that much and there was no sign of movement on any of the bolts on the injection pump gear. I will next do a complete alignment of all the timing items. Injection pump, crank, cam and check the crank woodruff key for the timing gear on the crank. Anybody have any other thoughts?
