My 68 has 3.5 drop plates, Flat Four/Enkie 5 spoke wheels and 185/65x15 tires and had maybe 1/8 inch of clearance. I had to pull the fender wells out by hand for clearance. It works but barely. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

I think that on any VW that isn`t lowered looks funny with custom wheels. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

How do the front tires ride? I am currently running pirellis 195/60/15 and rub way too much up front! I have been looking for 175/55/15 size tire and they are hard to come by in my area. Plus they keep telling me the load rating isn't sufficient. Might have to buy them online and hope someone will mount and
balance the new tires.
I Could use 195/50/15 but I read in here they rubbed for someone else.... |

I'm running 185/55 in the front and have no rubbing issues. Spindles on a stock width beam.

I'm finishing my front end build and moving to the fun stuff. I have a couple things I'd like some advice on, if you would
Main Q-
My bus came with a Ghia Trans 4.12 Swing Axle (seems healthy but I'd still take it somewhere to check it checked out if I use it, Im not much of a trans guy). My specs are below, Im curious if 4.12 is too tall. Worth investing in a 3.88 trans? Sounds like it may be a little better for freeway and acceleration from what I've seen. My main goal, driving it a lot and being able to pass grandmas on the freeway when needed. Light hills and long trips during the summer.
I don't have a motor! I followed a nice 1600SP build on here with dual kadrons. May go that route, or getting into a 1776.
Rear 195/65/15's
Fronts 165/50/15's
4" narrowed adjustable beam with welded spindles
Offset spring plates from Wide Five
1.5" steering box raise |

You left out the year of your bus, and what kind of weight it needs to haul around. (empty panel, or loaded Westy) _________________ nothing |

This is a general statement, but run the 4.12R&P, something smaller than a 2liter with a 3.88 R&P isn't going to pull hills well.
I've done 1,000+ mile trips with a 3.88 and a built 1600, it wasn't that fun. Same trans and a 2276, those trips were fun, ha, ha. _________________ Aaron D. Badertscher

It's a 65' 13 window. I'll haul stuff here and there, but mostly building it as a normal driver, empty for the most part.
Cool, so smaller builds are generally good for a 4.12 in this situation. What breaks down to a 2Liter? 1915cc-ish? |

1L ==1000cc 1.6L==1600cc and so on
My last bus was a stock 4:12 tranny with a mild 1776cc and it ran great fully loaded or empty
But i was also running 205/65/15 on 5.5" wide rims in the rear if you run a smaller tire combo it will change the ratio _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough
