Empi gauges, 6 or 12 volts ?

Which is the difference between an EMPI 6 and a 12 oil pressure/temp gauge ?
Any pictures of some 6 volts ones ?

An electric temperature gauge is a current meter. The scale on the gauge face is marked with temperature, but the meter pointer position is dependent on current. The 6 or 12VDC input provides current to the meter through a calibration resistor and the sending unit. The sending unit is a temperature dependent resistor installed in the engine. As the engine warms up the resistance in the sending unit decreases causing more current to flow in the meter and moving the pointer. The meter current is determined by the input voltage, calibration resistor and sending unit resistance.
A well designed temperature gauge will have a voltage regulator between the DC input and the circuit to minimize the effect of battery voltage changes. However, due to cost many gauges do not have a voltage regulator.

External 12V to 6V gauge regulators are available. A DC to DC converter can be used for a 12V gauge in a 6V system.
