I haven't taken my panels off my doors yet, but both side windows are hard to roll down and up.
Before I dig in, what are some suggestions or ideas?
Thanks! _________________ 1973 Karmann Ghia Convertible |

I would get some rags, carb cleaner (in a spray can) and some white lithium grease. Ideally you would want to remove the regulators, but I would see what you can do with them installed first. Put some rags behind and below the regulator to catch excess carb cleaner, then spray the regulator and tracks liberally. Wipe as much grease and dirt off as you can, repeat if necessary. After you have removed as much grease and dirt as you can let the regulator dry (overnight would be good). Once it is dry you can grease up the mechanism and roll it up and down to make sure it is good and lubed. A spray can of white lithium grease might work best with the regulator installed. Hopefully others will chime in with other suggestions. |

Once the panels are off you will see all parts in motion and follow what loren suggested. After you clean and lube everything.... if the glass still rolls up alot easier with the doors open ,you might want to consider adjusting the glass a bit because it's pressing to hard against the seals.
Other things to consider would be having some extra panel clips and clip seals on hand. if they are all old , then there is a chance of some busting as you pop them loose. also read up on here about vapor barriers and have some supplies on hand to do that job. more often than not ,they are not there. |
