I think the max on these right now is about $100.
I had a SUPER nice one and decided to push the envelope a bit and ask $100.

It took a while but it sold.

I sold another really clean one for $80 before that.

That looks like a $40-$50 one to me.
I wouldn't pay that but I might ask that.

I've got one in better shape I'd sell for $30. Laughing They're way too common and easy to find in better condition to pay more than $40 for one.

Last near new one of these I saw was $100 shipped (from Germany). Decal was intact/clean and the rubber connector piece was included.

Really? Late fender on the front, cut up engine bay with a T1. Who knows what else. Maybe the wheels are worth it.

I do, it doesnt.

The ad basically says "I paid way too much for a project car that I can't fix because I am in over my head. I'm hoping someone as gullible as I am will buy it from me so I can recover my money." Laughing

That might be a $1500 car at best...

The guy obviously knows nothing about air cooled VW's. A pretty optimistic price tag. I agree that maybe $1000-1500 would be reasonable.

The ad's been running for weeks/months. I thought about going to see it before I bought my current project but the price and the fact that he never tried to work on it kept me away.

This car sat on the local CL for several months at $1200/obo. a credible source tells me it sold for $900ish. I have no problem with the seller trying to flip it - but from the looks of it, it appears he paid a rather generous price and is now trying to double his money.

Yeah that rubs me the wrong way too. That said, I think $1800ish could be a fair price for this car.

That first pic of the car in the snow with the faded Baltic blue paint does strike a chord though. Pulling that out of garage from where its been stored since 1980 - that's the stuff of dream finds for some young fella... Cool

It is a 100% complete car and a true barn find.

It has been sitting in a garage since 1980

Garages must be called barns in New Jersey... Rolling Eyes

Rockers, front fenders and rear seat floorboards are rusted and need repair.

To me.....

This whole "barn find" thing has gotten out of hand...

It's a "garage" find....somebody drove the thing until they couldn't fix it anymore (note the wiring)...or do any body work on it...

A "barn find" (to me at least) is an original, low mileage, all intact, in good shape car that someone parked and it's been sitting...waiting to be restored...and the person got lucky and found it..

Not a car that someone drove the piss out of....on salty roads....needs floorboards and heater channels...wiring looks like it's going to catch fire if you even come near it with a battery...

I can find pieces of sh*t in barns all the time....

I've got a line on some Granadas and Fairmonts if anyone is interested..

True, but check out the Photobucket link in the ad.
http://s743.photobucket.com/user/katriebold/library/1966%20Volkswagen%20Fastback

It's rusted beyond practical repair, shoddy wiring, the engine *might* run (probably needs a full teardown and rebuild), and I'd expect to find more Hal Fassed repairs than shown, but it would be a good parts donor to a stripped, but not rusty shell.
I think the earlier $1200 asking price was a bit ambitious, and the actual selling price wasn't too far out of line for someone looking for a parts car. It is very complete and original.

The current asking price simply seems too high to me, for what it is. It may be worth it to someone looking for a decent, original 66 interior and all the other hard-to-find parts it has.

barn find should also include the type of barn. Looked at an early squareback ( I think they said it was a 67) It sat in horse p & s for most of its life. They said it had been parked since the accident in 70. The accident damage was minor, rot on top of rot. Still wanted Large $ for it.

Yeah hadn't seen the rest of the pics when I said that. I agree, not worth $1800. I wouldn't go so far as to say its beyond practical repair though.
