The inspection should have revealed if anything is out of spec. Clean and torque the case to specs and stick a dialbore gauge in there.
I hope he had not brought out the cutter too early. Sometimes, you just gotta back off and breathe a little to rethink a solution to a problem. Oh well...
I once came upon a nice case brought to me to check out. And some idiot had already sandpapered the cam bearing saddles. Well, they were oval'ed and naturally the bearings will not stay in place. Probably used a flap wheel to "clean" the saddles. Steel-backed bearings lay on there. There should not be any cleaning needed. Thing stays clean anyway.
So nice case, ruined. It became a linebore sizer - sacrificial item. |

Update.. he called me this am and stated he got a case from the same shop as before. The owner did not want to part with it but eventually caved. It already has case savers and has been lined bored ect. He also stated that the shop he bought it from had the H5 case listed as a case from a 1970. The new case he got today is a AE, same as the one I dropped off to start. SO at this point all is well and he says it should be finished by wensday. |
