Oh hell yeh, that's got me shaking in my boots already. Laughing

If you use an electronic device it will have to be shock or motion activated.

Other options:
Removable steering wheel
Club style steering lock
Shifter lock
The old hidden switch for power to the coil
Uhhh, Bigger dog
Fake poo in the driver's seat

As for items in the back seat.....best thing is "out of site, out of mind. I hide a few thing under the boot cover. A lockable box thats bolted down can be used. You do know the front trunk is lockable don't you?

On a road trip to NYC, I used a heavy cable style bike lock to secure my luggage to the front cross member of the rear seat bench. My luggage was one of those plastic Pelican cases; nobody messed with it.

The old school of thought with convertibles was to leave the doors unlocked, so a determined thief wouldn't slash the top to gain entry.
These days, the valuables I travel with are small enough to lock in the trunk (hopefully, the thief isn't packing a #3 philips or impact driver to remove the screws).

there are convert alarms that after you set them - anything that reaches in - will set them off ----

I had one on a 66 mustang convert i had
---- it was cool but it got set off a lot by leaves - cats - birds ---- wind could blow a seat cover or a piece of paper and it would go off -----

I know that at least one time it save some stuff from kids in a parking lot --- someone in a parked car saw them reaching into the car --- then almost pooping them selves....

"anything that reaches in"

Had a friend with a 65 Mustang Convertible that had a dead battery every night after work. We finally discovered that blackbirds were landing on his headrest, and then fleeing when they were scared by the alarm!

I had a knock-down-drag-out years ago on this board over this issue. A poster had opined that the Thing must be the most practical vehicle. I disagreed. Utilitarian, yes, practical, no. My main beef was the lack of lockable storage.

Speaking of which, is anyone offering the locking door pocket covers?

Hey Semper, where did you get those locks?

There is a gentleman out of Germany selling metal (aluminum) lockable door pocket covers in the classifieds and there are reinforced fiberglass ones in the classifieds at the moment. You can find both by searching for 'Thing Door.' They're in the bottom half of my search results.

The padlock is a Bundeswehr surplus item. I bought one off the classifieds probably a year ago. You can find them on ebay fairly cheaply if you get creative with your search terms (ie searching for bundeswehr vehicles besides the vw 181 - unimog for example). The little metal fuse/bulb holders are cheaper to find that way, too.

I believe Al Capulco was selling them at one time. It isn't on his current list though.

Google "Abus lock"

Locking door pockets are a funny notion to me when someone can just take the whole door!

A jeep owner Laughing

The PO on mine has replaced the pin with one that has a little screw threaded into it so it takes a tool to get it off. One could probably drill and tap a hole into the top of the existing pin and use a socket cap screw with a allen head on it to secure it. It would be highly unlikely that a would-be thief would have the tool with them to steal it.

We used a lockable toolbox bolted to the frame of our sand rail in Tucson...
You could do the same with a pelican case or tool box, bolted to the package tray of your Thing....? Or get creative and fabricate(have fabricated) a steel, lockable box that custom fits the package tray....

Got to the Abus website but didn't see those, is there a model number and a source in the US?
