If it turns out you need to replace your floor pan, I have that section here(Airdrie), new from ISP west that I will let go for cheap. |

Can this be applied to painted surfaces, or does it have to be bare metal?
No worries about yesterday, Mark - we'll connect soon. _________________ Robin

My square just has cotton padding under the carpet that allows it to dry up fast when it gets wet. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Cool, thanks! I hope it won't come to that, but I'll keep you posted. _________________ Robin

With the spring-like weather finally here, I've been able to get some work done on my fastback.
Ground the pans clean, and coated with POR-15. I'm super impressed with the stuff: it looks like a baked-on finish! Hopefully it arrests any further rusting on the floor pans. Also coated the battery tray and rear cargo deck.
After grinding:

The rotors were way out of spec, so I ordered up some new ones, and also rebuilt the calipers. All four pistons were seized in the calipers, but cleaned up real nice, and show no pitting or rust.
Also dropped the front end of the car two notches, this is how it sits on 185/55 (on the front). The back needs to come down too, right now it's got a rake that would look more at home on a '73 Vega.
Again, super grateful for the collective wisdom of this forum. _________________ Robin

Looks good! I wish I could say that Spring weather is here in Ontario but we are getting hit with sideways snow! Are you going to paint the car in the original colour or something different? Did you address that earlier? |

Crazy to see that it's been almost 4 years since I last posted on this thread. Anyway, I have been working on my car. This is not a "build thread" by any stretch - I'm a rank amateur working with a pretty solid car. But I'm having a great time and really gaining an appreciation for the type 3. I've really grown to love this little car.
Also really glad this forum exists.
Anyway, there was some melted wiring behind the gauges, but nothing too awful. Weird PO stuff that I mostly just removed.
Finally got sick of laying on my driveway, so I found a garage and have been working there for the past year or so. So much better!
The car is almost ready for safetying. Won't be putting the carpets and door seals on until I figure out what to do with the paint.
Got some front tires - went with 155/65r15s. This was the last obstacle to being mobile. After over 4 years of off and on work, the thing finally moved under its own power - perhaps for the first time in decades! Such a great feeling.

Yes, I'm thinking about stripping the primer off to see if the original paint is still underneath. The car was hit at one point, so the hood and the front half of the driver's side front fender don't match. _________________ Robin
