I'm surprised that nearly half of those in the poll at the top of the page are in the the 15 year range of 31 to 45. That means that someone who is 45 would have gotten their driver's license sometime from 1977 to 1984 (since this is a 7 year old topic). The point being, there weren't many aircooled VWs coming out of the factory after 1977; so the 15 to 23 year olds back then wouldn't have said to themselves, "Man, I'd love to have a VW."

I thought that the 46 and older crowd would have been way more represented than they are -- more than double their 12% figure. After all, VWs were one of the makes that the 46+ age group saw as new cars as kids. And the middle aged crowd tend to buy and restore cars that were new when they were young.

As for me, I am 63 and living in an undisclosed city in northern Orange County, California. I am such an old geezer compared with most of you Type 3 owners that I feel like the guy in this photo.

Eh? What's that you say, sonny?

I am 64, so it's not like you are the oldest! My sister ran around with a girl that drove a square in High School. Later on my neighbor ripped around Redding in a square. I found my '67 square peeking out of the blackberries in one of my brown egg customer's yard and had to have it! Cool

Personally I'd think the over 46 group would be more into T-34s, since they've got more disposable income (well before the bottom fell out and killed all the IRAs in 2008/2009). And if you visit T-34 World, it sure seems like most of the T-34 owners are in the 50+ group, with only a handful in the 31 to 45 age bracket.

To be honest, back when I was growing up as a kid, I looked more at "muscle cars", and the like, as I was more into domestics, or other cool cars of the time, rather than VWs. It wasn't until after I got married, we had kids, that I really got into VWs, as they were "cheaper" to restore, and have a nice ride. Wink Now, I don't know IF I'd call restoring any car cheap, as everythings gotten so damn expensive. Rolling Eyes I still wish I had a bunch of cars from my youth though, as now they'd be worth some money now, as they're "collectable" cars. Shocked

Hi there,
I am 59 and the club I will join soon is the "Samba members over 60"...

And yes, as most senior members Rolling Eyes I own a T34, year 1963, you can see her on the official T34 thread.

A member of two clubs :
-The Karman -Ghia club of France
-The Cox & Co. Club of Mācon, my home town.

(It's the local AC VW club. "Cox" is the short for "Coccinelle", = how the French call the type 1) Not many Frenchies on this forum...
