|
|
Hello,
When I purchased a 1975 bus from out of state it had a lost title. Georgia did not require a title to register the vehicle for the road.
I would like to get a valid title, but not certain the process. Will I have to trace back to the original owners and get them to sign something? If so, is there an easy way to find the owners?
If I do not get the title will I be able to sell the bus in the future to someone out of state?
Thanks, |

My '79 didn't have a title and was last registered in GA before the title thing was required. In FL I filled out some paperwork and was able to get a title. Since you are in GA I would think it would even be easier for you. Have you contacted DMV? _________________ 1977 Transporter 2.0L Automatic Project

Each state is different, so call your state's DMV. |

I don't know about ^^^ that, But you can register your car in Vt. w/out a Title, just a bill of sale, you can do it from another state,But Vermont does not issue a title for any vehicle over 15 years old.
SOME states will take the Vt. Regi. & let you title it in that state, nothing "sketchy" about it, Title Companys do it all the time. It all depends on what YOUR state wants for paper work. _________________ Tom

I would first call your GA DMV and see if they can get you a replacement title first.
I did the VT title route last year and it was quick and easy but they do charge alot for the initial registration. Here in NV I just told them I didnt have a title cause i brought the bus in from VT and they let me register it in NV after a VIN inspection. After I had NV plates i could apply for a lost title in NV. _________________ 1973 Campmobile http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=524511&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Thanks for all the comments. I was able to register the Bus in Georgia without the title and with just a bill of sale. To get a title you must fill out a form and then go back to each of the previous owners and have them sign an affidavit.
Seems like an impossible task. So, I guess when I will finish the repairs and if I decide to sell it in the future I will need to deal with any problems. |

Document everthing you do because somebody could have a substantial lien on the vehicle and with out proof of money spent in good faith they can steal your work for low blue book. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.
