So I am doing some work for this guy. He has a K2 4.0 Launch. Other than flat tires it looks mint. He said their bikes haven't made it out of the garage for several years. I haven't been able to find much info on it. I think it is an 02

Before I approach him about getting rid of it what would one of these go for

Used mountain bikes just aren't worth much. Even really nice ones depreciate very quickly. A twelve year old mtb will be harder to find parts for as technology/industry standards have changed. You could probably buy a new bike for $400 that would have the same or better performance qualities as the 12 year old K2 and be new. I say no more than $175 if it's really nice. If it doesn't have disc brakes I'd pass.

^x2. Prices listed there seem to be pretty realistic. Checked a few bikes I own and they've depreciated by more than 50 percent in just 2-3 years Crying or Very sad

Basically I would be trading him labor. It looks like a good deal and its newer than what I have anyway. They keep all their stuff in really nice condition.

While the bike may not be worth all that much, it still may be of good value to you.

Vintage mountain bikes have a following, so finding parts won't be hard.

I'd say the biggest determining factor is how the bike fits you. Used, older MTB's are a dime a dozen, so getting one that you won't be comfortable on isn't worth it.
