I currently have my engine being rebuilt by Adrian at Headflow Masters, so I'm working on cleaning up the transaxle. The clutch lever assembly was caked with grime so I disassembled to clean it up. All the parts look to be in good shape. The main shaft seal came out nicely with the gasket puller tool.

Adrian said he'll have the engine on the dyno next week...really looking forward to some camping after this long Wisconsin winter!

Today I installed the drivers side heater box I got from my buddy Mtnbus. The one I was running was a little wore out and I kept on getting an exhaust leak. It's a German one in good shape and it cleaned up nicely. I primed and painted it with 500* VHT spray paint. I also installed new heater hose.
After that in changed the oil and adjusted the valves. Then we went for a nice drive into town.

Got the motor back in Ruby after spending the past year cleaning and refurbishing it and the engine compartment. I should have it on the road in a couple of days so I can drive it around town to make sure all is good before I take her camping next weekend. She's been in the garage way too long!

Gave my new dual battery setup a try this last weekend. Worked like a champ and the bus started right up after camping for three days. Very Happy

Is that a kit or did you make it ? Where did you get it ? I'm not sure how my factory kit is so I am looking for options when the time comes.

It's not a kit. I put the various pieces together myself. The fuse holders and relay came from ebay, the charging relay is a Blue Sea Systems ACR, and they're all mounted on a piece of 1/8" PVC with a piece of angled aluminum on the left for support.

And just to be fair, I owe a ton of thanks to many people in these forums who have posted quite a bit of info on these dual battery setups. I read as many postings as I could before I took the plunge and built my own. But I'm happy I did and the system works great.

I just received my Kennedy Engineering Subaru to automatic Bus adapter that I bought a little over a week ago ( hardware not pictured ). I got it used from Doug ( username: tamagosan ) . I saved $200 buying this used. I will be putting a 2001 Impreza 2.5 SOHC into my '78 Champagne Edition Westy. I got the complete motor for free and I am rebuilding it right now, build thread to come very soon.

I built this under-dash tray tonight. Used a friend's as a template. I rushed it, but it came out OK. The bottom is thin plywood just lightly stapled for fitting. Brackets are formed using the originals from the model. I will fit it up there tomorrow, make any adjustments, sand, paint black, and reattach. Cost-around $15 bucks.

Looks great! That is similar to what I did with mine. I did notice your edges are a bit wider then mine. That is a good idea. Mine cracked in one spot. I tried to make a bracket to hold it together but it cracked where a I put the small screw to hold the bracket. I am just letting it be for now and later I will make another one but with wider edges like yours. Very Happy

Well I was very busy. Here is what I accomplished between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on a 1970 VW Transporter.

1. disassembled the wipers and motors. cleaned and put back together. I had to fiddle with the park position but managed to completely repair non working wipers. The three little springy thingies holding 3 black cubes were a challenge to put back in and rest properly in the wiper motor.

2. Adjusted brakes. What a difference that made. The star adjusters were frozen solid but managed to free them and get the right touch on the brake shoes.

3. Glove box. That was easy.

4. Driver and passenger windows. Pulled out the old seals, felt channels, and trim and replaced. Not hard but did take some time. The vent windows were very tedious but it all seems to fit nicely.

5. Door weather stripping for driver, passenger, and sliding door. I had removed the old stuff. Must have been original. I had to scrap it all out. Sand, primer, and paint. Did that last week. Just installed today. Also the back hatch and engine lid seals too.

6. Installed mudflaps with the VW logo on it.

That was a good day. Enjoyed it very much. Beautiful weather for out door car repairs!

Yesterday the donor jetta got towed away and the camper replaced it in my friends garage. The first time in about 9 years its been inside. I was finally able to pop the windshield out and see how bad it really is. Better than I was expecting.

The other side was missing the lens. I posted it a few places trying to part other stuff off it. There was some good parts on the car. Trans was blown up. And the interior was teenager destroyed.
I had one guy who wanted me to ship a fender to California. I sent him 3 pics of just the fender. He wanted me to take the pin stripe off it and send him more pics. I was like, yea nevermind it's rusty at the bottom.

I scrapped the cat converter for 50 bucks, so I got the motor and everything for a net of 400 bucks. I'm happy with that.
