I saw them use it on one of those car shows on Spike (The Powerblock). I think it was on a Mustang. It looked aweful in my opinion.
With so many other alternatives out there I would look elsewhere. |

Thanks i am on a very very very small budget for painting body. Buggy is going to be a daily driver when weather permits so im not looking for a show car paint job that im afraid will get scratched every time i drive it. So any help from members with any other inexpensive brands i could use would be awsome. |

I have used Kirker alot. VERY affordable and very user friendly. You can get more than enough paint and activator for $100 or less.
You can shoot it as a single stage or clear over it depending on your budget. Its available from www.autobodytoolmart.com in LOTS of colors. |

Go to local auto parts (tha supplies body shops) or local automotive paint supplier.... Look at possible color paint chips, listen to what "dealer" has to say about the brands that are available locally and have local painter do the job if you are not spray gun proficient...
IF you are sort of indifferent about brand and color then quality of paint is not going to be a real issue.... Just go with name brand local dealer has like Dupont or what ever....
When I did my buggy, I had local painter pick out product he though best to use after we decided on color (from a factory paint code) ...

You may be on a small budget but select carefully and mortgage the house if necessary (just kidding), but final paint job is how you will perceive your ride and how other will judge it also....
If you are not happy with final paint job you will never be happy with buggy as a whole or the buggy experience.... It's all about your own value system...

I used dupli color to paint a buggy a couple of years ago
this was the first time painting and the buggy was ruff
I used a HF spray gun and did it out side , so of course it was not show quality
I feel it took a lot of paint and clear coat to get it to cover and the cost came out to almost $175 for all the supplies
I don't know how well it held up as it was sold soon after
The idea was to build this buggy and sell it to fund the next project
Not sure what the next one will be , but I have seen on the net a roll on deal with rustolemum

Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Duplicolors Shopline stuff. It is just plain old acrylic lacquer. There is a good reason no manufacturer puts this on production vehicles nowadays. Durability. Single stage lacquer products will not come close to the durability of a good 2k base/clear or single stage urethane system. I know you are on a budget, however Kirker does indeed make some great budget catalyzed paints as well as Transtar. Southern Polyurethanes Universal Clear is one of the best clears out there and delivery to your door is free. You could combine that clear with a base color from a local paint jobber and you could have a show quality paint job that could be driven every day but would last. I know that quality materials aren't cheap but what is the economy of a paint job that starts failing within a year or two?
I painted my kit car in PPG base/clear 22 years ago, put 65,000 miles on it driving through 13 states and I would put it up against any "new" paint job. |

I painted my baja with it and it turned out good.
Very easy to use. No mixing, just stir pour and
shoot. _________________ SOME MORNINGS IT'S JUST NOT

Thanks guys i looked at kirker this morning and their gallon of hugger orange is about the same price as four quarts of duplicolor hugger orange and it looks very bright and vibrant so that is probably the one im going go with. This has been a on going project for about 6 yrs now and paint and assembly is the last of it. Being a single parent with a son who plays year round sports is why the budget is so so so tight so every part ive bought and or fixed has been saved and saved for and i dont want all that hard wasted with a crappy paint job.

You will like the Kirker. Since it is non-metallic I would just go single stage and don't clear it. Leave yourself a little for touch ups but put enough on in case you get some bugs or runs and you want to wet sand it. |

This was $300 for the paint job at Econo Paint and Body here in West Columbia, SC. Its a really good 3 foot paint job meaning if you get closer then you will start to see imperfections. I did all the body and prep work myself which saved a lot of $$$ not to mention I delivered just the body which required no taping or anything. Just a scuff and shoot for them. My point is, check around local shops that usually do work for used car sales companies. They do cheap decent work that would look better than me doing it. I got plenty of $3000 estimates which I'm sure would look amazing but I didn't have $3k to throw down. It doesn't have to be super expensive. $300 included the paint which is a factory color. The best part of it was that it was done in 3 days and it would've taken me 3 more weeks.
