Got the rockers, bulkhead, and inner wings roughed in for what will be the first of three assemble/dissemble of the body. There is a method to my madness, and redundancy is the key to getting it right. As this progresses each reassembly brings the fitment closer and tweaks are made to get everything as correct I personally can get it. I will be rough assembling it on the dolly, then transfer to pan to refine fit and lock in panels tighter. Today was spent straining flanges measuring, measuring and measuring. Once things were straight and cross checked, scribe and indexing mark were made to be able r & r the panels for test fitting and mocking over the next few months. Clecos & sheetmetal screws were used to get things set in for now. The rockers (in conjunction with the pillars from earlier work done) were the second part of getting a good reference points diagonally in relation to the front portion of the cars body measurements. Old factory schematic drawings and prints were referenced to get it as close as I can dimensionally. I am grateful for the spot I am able to use a my good friends shop to do the body construction. Although I have to shuttle parts back and forth to my little garage shop it is well worth the drive and hassle to have a little extra space to move around There will be more to come stay tuned....

I hope that is a good thing considering this is a Ghia and not a Cadillac? It's been a long time planning and pulling the old rust. It is nice to get a view of "progress",as short lived as it is to keep you motivated. Got a ways to go, but I've found when you chip away, all of the sudden the small steps happen progressively faster. I owe a lot to all the support from the community here. I try in my own small way to "pay it back" with photos of methods used, and a simple approach to doing things. As I have said before, this thread is like a buffet. If there is something you like and it helps, motivates, or inspires you take it and use it. I am just very lucky to have this car, the time, and wife that supports me during these restorations. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

You definitely wouldn't go for my "if it doesn't fit, hammer it till it does" method. Then again, I'm sure you are putting so much money into parts that hammering on them much would be a sin. |

Oh believe me there is plenty of hammering, wheeling, bending, shrinking, stretching, drilling, jigging, welding, swearing, planishing, going on. We will get it to fit some how . Even though some of the parts are NOS they all are different and need to be convinced to fit. A lot of metal is repaired or in the middle of being repaired, one part at a time. To steal a quote from the forum, "I might not be good, but I sure am slow". Very nice metal work by the way k man, your project is coming along awesome. There is defiantly a satisfaction when you are able to do it yourself. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

Finally was able to get the drivers rocker, support and outside fit prior to setting on the the chassis. Was able to find a very usable inner left rear and after a lot of work remove it. Now the metal straightening and fitment starts. Working on the rear and getting very close to Clecos and rough fit. Then it will be mated on to the jig and all put together. Once entire body is jigged, I plan on disassembling it, media blasting each piece and DP primering it. Then it will be reassembled on the pan and measured a lot closer. The DP will be stripped where the tack and indicating welds will be made weld through primer applied at weld joints, ect. Stay tuned I don't want to bore you with the plans further then that. I have already babbled too long.

After exhaustive searching found the correct outside passenger rocker. Patients pays off. Next week it will get the reinforcement and fit up. Thanks Mr. Gabber for the front wire loom pipe. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

This week was able to test fit, then attach rocker support into the rocker assembly on the passenger side. Also was able to get the rear inner hoop and fire wall disassembled. It was a long few days of drilling spot welds and disassembly. I spent today morning fitting, spot welding and reassembly. Very excited now that all is separated everything is accessible for cleaning, repairing, restoring, and pattern taking for fabrication. Looks like a complete mess but there is a method to my approach to restoration. The gold SEM primer is a copper rich weld through primer. I have used both 3m and SEM, and although I am very partial to 3M products, I have to say I prefer the SEM for weld adhesion and penetration post weld.
I am so glad all this car needed when I got it was paint............ _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

I was told mine needed a battery, gen, and tires. Actually needed a new engine, trans, 114 other problems fixed along with electrics that required turning off the engine with the headlight switch. |
