No odd ball distributor here but a question for you guys in the know. I have a 205Q on my engine, stock dual port 1600, Dog House cooler, stock cam as far as I know,HYD lifters. I really dont like the dual can dist. and think I will change over to a different one. Any suggestions on what to use on this engine would be helpful, I am thinking maybe a stock 66-67 bus distributor would work well. Any info would be helpful. It calls for 5 degrees ATDC with a timing light and hoses hooked up, but will only reach maybe 25 degrees advance at this setting. I advanced it to TDC and was able to get around 30 degrees total advance and the idle picked up and smoothed out. Anyway I want to change over to a different dist. and any info would be helpful. Thanks |

A 205Q is a great distributor for a dual port bus, lots of low and midrange torque, you may be dissapointed on hills with something else. To time it properly scroll down to the bottom of this thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=587687
If you do decide to ditch it I'd be interested in it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks for the tips busdaddy, I will try timing it that way and see how it goes. I will probably still change it out but use the 205Q for a backup on trips. |

Hey Bill, you gave us lots of info on your engine but left out the most important as far as choosing a distributor is concerned. We need to know what carburetor(s) you are running.
If you have a 30 PICT series carburetor you can run the 1966-67 distributor if your not the vacuum signal will not be correct from carburetor to vacuum canister. _________________ Roads Scholar &

The correct stock distributor for a type I and II for 1966-1967 is a 113 905 205 K otherwise known as Bosch # 0 231 137 009 of the vacuum advance only variety. Some buses also received the 131 905 205, Bosch # 0 231 137 011. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Yes it is a 30 PICT. A 66-67 stock distributor is on my short list . |

If you were running a 211 Q with the 30 PICT you were getting a mismatch with the vacuum signal. _________________ Roads Scholar &
