It always amazes me how destructive people get trying to break into cars.
Some cardboard box packing tape which can be found in lots of places or line trimmer string and you can be into a 68+ bug in minutes, no breaking windows or scratching paint with coat hangers.

One of the cool things about a bug, to me, is that in order for you to use the door lock pull to lock the door, you have to hold the door handle in while shutting the door--otherwise the lock just pops right back up.
Something that would have saved me on a few occasions with the more modern-day cars. |
What modern cars don't do that?
I haven't struck any but we don;t get many North American built cars here
Its been a feature on most cars for 40+ years so if the door shuts accidentally on its own it wont lock.
Even Mums Brand new Barina and Dads Peugeot do it
My 4x4 has that typical 80s-90s Nissan thing where you have to lock the drivers door when its shut with the key, you can't use the inside knob so the keys cant be locked in. |
Wow.
Every single car I remember that my family or I have owned over the last 25 years stays locked when you shut the door after the locks are engaged- with the possible exception of a 1993 Mazda Protege we owned- can't really remember on that one.
My 1995 Pontiac Bonneville, 2001 Honda Accord, mom's 2002 Chevy Impala, 2007 Accord, mom's 2012 Hyundai Sonata, and 2013 Kia Soul all stay locked if you shut the door after locking it. |
I'm thinking its a feature the manufacturers disable for the American market because I can tell you Accords here do it.
As someone said its possibly an anti highjack thing for US market _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

I've locked the keys in my old kia rio a couple of times, a wire hanger always did the trick. Good thing I was at home when I did it.
Always have a spare. If you have space in your wallet, put one in it. Just don't loose your wallet. |

Good joke. Like I have so many passwords that I keep them in a file on the computer. But it's OK, that's password-protected !!! _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I DO have the spare key... I've had it for a year (when I bought the car). Problem is that it's STILL blank. I bought the blank the week I bought the car. I just haven't gotten it cut.
After today, I will definitely go have it cut though. I may even do it tomorrow after school.
Hope you are all good and thanks for the suggestions and lectures. _________________ one, two, many

A little off the subject, but I've known a couple new GMC owners that had the key IN THEIR HAND, locked all the doors, and then they could get back in WITH THE KEY! The security system had a glitch so the vehicle had to be towed, and to tow it the driveshafts had to be disconnected, and after it was towed to the dealer they could reset the security system so the key would work again. _________________ If a water cooled engine cools its water with air, isn't it just an overcomplicated air cooled engine? |

Was it called an Uno because it only lasted one year? _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

actually on the fiat panda mk1 you could lock a door just by engaging the lock and slamming it shut. I think the uno was the same, not sure about the south african version though. _________________ cars:

The only annoying part was you had to wait for your passenger to exit,k to lock their door from inside, or you needed to walk around with the key.
I bought it secondhand, drove it for 11 years and then sold it for 20% more than I paid for it with over 180 000kms on the clock.
Taken on the day she was sold. _________________ If you can't fix it with a hammer, it is an electrical fault.

I've locked my keys in my baja multiple times. My wife makes fun of me all the time. With a Phillips screwdriver my glove box comes out easily. Grab the keys or open the door and done. Except that one time after dinner where we couldn't find a phillips screwdriver... _________________ '69 Baja Frankenbug 1500 SP |
