they could have all sold for 500$ and it would mean the same thing which is nothing.......its great they went that high but on another day they could fluctuate greatly either way up or down..........auction is total chaos but then so is daily life/deals......my favorite is fools trying to gain any kind of "market value" as if old cars are all the same and the variables are so common that a fool can say "oh yeah thats worth x all day long"..........man i love thesamba _________________ Have a great day! |

California leads the way in over priced on anything you say "it's for sale"..
I wonder how an auction in ... Lets say Kentucky would do? |

Me, too. While it may seem quaint, or whatever, those are the days that seem to have spawned most of the negative myths about VW's in general, and busses in particular. |

I disagree.
I think the myths surrounding VW's are overwhelmingly positive, which is the main reason that old VW's, and split buses in particular, are as popular as they are today.
The silly putty and baling wire approach to keeping them together did not diminish that positive image, nor the buses themselves. To the contrary, that philosophy kept buses running, driving and on the street. Without the ability to cobble some hillbilly fix together, buses would have been scrapped in larger numbers AND got a bad rep.
Buses are popular today, in a large part, because they take people back to a simpler time; when everything in life seemed to be simpler, including baling wire your ride together to get you through one more week. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

I disagree. Those cobbled fixes past on from owner to owner eventually landed a lot of buses in the junk yard. They were known for being cheap... ~ enough of those- "get by for another week" fixes piled up and eventually they weren't worth fixing at all.
On another note- IMO- here's where some people don't get it~ I've heard it said- "a lot of these busses were junked, just think what they'd be worth!"
I say- supply and demand. Had all those old busses survived, maybe we're not hunting as hard... and the values would be less. It's bitter sweet, but it's because they weren't collectable that they became collectable.

We agree on that, but the same is true of all old vehicles.
I'm suggesting that the old VW's were easier to baling wire together because they were simpler machines to begin with, so they survived longer because of that, eventually becoming cultural icons. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

Can they seize a shop full of cars if they weren't his? Customers? I mean (quality aside) he was a good way through all of those. |

There aren't that many buses in Kentucky probably. Same here in Maryland. The climate has claimed so many. _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

I hope my county's tax assessor didn't see that. He already thinks my busses are worth more than I do.
Flip side.... today I found another note under the wiper asking if I want to sell. _________________ Judy

Those paint jobs aren't the same. Look where the paint line between the colors is, they are not in the same spot on the beltline. _________________ -Corey

Yes, I noticed the interior was different.
Good point on the paint line - I missed that and I agree.
I seriously couldn't figure out how it could be assembled either, given that these buses were reported to be shells. |
Definitely not the same Buses.
That one that is listed here needs a good inspection, being that it doesn't have a sunroof.
The auction Buses were all horrible, much worse than the pics would lead you to believe. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage
