I like it , great place to start a Syncro. Would be better around $15,000. If it is all he says not out of line at that price. _________________ 1987 syncro westy tin top sun roof , GW2.3, rear locker, decoupler, Gary Lee tire rack & winch mount, lift, south african grill, big brakes , rhein alloy ,15 BFG AT, Fiamma 10 foot awning ,140 watt rear 85 watt front solar , mppt, truckfridge, automatic fire extinguishing system, tencent oil cooler, And a RMW SS exhaust! - 1971 bug convertible 1776 engine- 2010 Subaru turbo - 1993 Toyota 4x4 truck - 1999 Harley 95 CI, big bore, Andrews cams . It does look like a nice one, though at that price I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "good deal" - I guess it's all relative. FYI - the same van was listed at $11,500 when it was last sold 2 years ago, though as noted in the ad it looks like a fair amount of work has been done since then. And it does seem like Syncro prices have gone up in the past couple years... |

That's a damn since van! Almost exactly what I'd want if I could have a second rig - tintop with weekender interior and some nice accessories. Not too keen on the custom locker knob panel though... _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

looked at this van yesterday
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1627971
seller advertised no rust. there is obvious visual from the outside rust in passenger rear seam above the tire. i'm not a body guy. i'd ask for pics of the rust and rear body imperfections. pulled the autocheck if anyone wants it or more info pm me. i was looking for a van to do engine conversion, hav a good westy with rebuilt, want a good no rust body. kitchen and other seams looked good from body panels, did not go further and look into wheel wells. didn see any coolant leaks. to check out mechanics import parts service center in grants pass does a lot of vw work. |

Pay now or pay later.....personally, I would rather buy low and pay for the upgrades myself. As much of a PIA as it is to have all the projects, at least you know what you did to it and where it is at. That, to me, is peace of mind worth paying for.[/quote]

This one might be worth the hassle of importing if you're not afraid of all the paperwork:

It does have AC. there is a behr with 2 vents in place where the radio was. the stereo is now mounted on the dash in a custom box. |

I looked at that one myself, it has a salvage title and no history btw, my interactions with the owner raised some big red flags. Look at the seam on the back hatch, it might just be the camera angle but to me it looks like it has a bent frame. The seller wouldn't say what was wrong with it. |

That's different and reasonably priced ($9999) for what it is and given that mechanically is somewhat sound. Given extra space in my stable I'd be all over it

Considering a Eurovan and this one is nearby. Transmission was replaced in '08, but with 231,000 miles I think it's the engine I'm concerned about. Plus steering components, etc.

Still priced a little high? Or am I not a good judge? |

I know the owner of this one personally. I don't know much about Eurovan's, but I will verify that the majority of those miles are highway.
She takes good care of her gear. |

I have no reason not to believe that. She's a pro mountain biker, I'm sure travels a lot in the van.
But I don't put a lot of stock into "highway vs. city miles" when the mileage is that high anyway.
It also doesn't mean it's not priced right. I wasn't sure, that's why I was asking the hive mind. |

What do you think of the syncro for 15,500? Does it worry anyone that it is the stock motor? This is the only reason I am not JUMPING on it. |

I have no idea of its condition but there are not many 1980's out there.
