|
|
So, my coolant hose from the coolant tower to the engine developed quite a tumor a few weeks ago so I thought I'd share a picture for all of you to enjoy. Never seen this before.
Before I took the hose off the bubble was bigger, but was just filled with air. At first I thought the hose was about to explode so I replaced it as soon as I could, but after removing it I found that the inner wall of the hose was still fine, it had just developed some sort of air bubble.
Either way, it needed to be replaced.
Anyway, all is good now! _________________ '87 Vanagon GL Westfalia

Wow, I've seen minor ones but that qualifies for the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum of medical anomolies! I think a pinhole develops in the inner layer and the pressure of hot coolant slowly delaminates the layers from the tough fabric layer and balloons the softer stretchier outer layers. Usually the inner layer is a tougher, stretch resistant layer and the outer are merely for protection from abrasion.

In just a few months time you'll have a little baby hose. |

It is more fun when you pull in to buy gas after a high speed highway run and find one of those in the sidewall of your tire. |

Wild,
Better than the alternative, which is NOT finding it at a gas stop, eh?!!! _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1988 Toyota Supra 5 speed targa, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

Perfect!
Next time I'll let it grow a little bigger and see if I get a baby hose. Then I won't have to spent as much on coolant hoses. _________________ '87 Vanagon GL Westfalia

Agreed, I found a softball sized tumor when I stopped to take a picture way back when. Very thankful I found it when stopped. Have found tread separation a couple of other times in various rigs. |
