|
|
Sitting in my seat I do not feel like they are going to do me a lot of good for preventing whiplash from an accident because they seem too far back.
It hurts my neck just to lean back and take a nap in the seat!
I know I saw some inserts for them, but they only looked to be looked to be more for appearance then actual benefit.
Has anyone mod'd these to have more thickness? |

The pillow inserts are not just aesthetic; if they were, I wouldn't be using them :

The headrests are designed for whiplash and not for sleeping. Two different things, one with large accelerations and one without.
It seems to me that you would be better off using a pillow. _________________ Eric

The Eurovan seat headrests are incredibly comfortable for sleeping and I am sure that they are very effective against whiplash. Those Vanagon head rests are nothing more than 80's design style |

Here are some that came with my Tristar, not sure if they are homemade or something from the dealers in Europe.

You know, I know they were designed for whiplash. I also know that I have have been to enough accidents, investigated enough accidents, to know that my height, my body position and range of motion that these things as they are really are not going to be as effective as they would be if they were closer to the back of my skull! |

Yeah, something like these filled with a good firm, yet soft packing styrofoam that I've seen in some boxes. |

Never really thought about the gap between my head and the headrest, can't really see it. Should get those German pillows, wonder if they ever crash tested them? If you take a look at what is inside a child's car seat to protect the head you'll notice that it is a solid hard foam. It is called EPS foam and is in most seats w/ Side Impact protection. Booster seats have it too.

The EPS, (expanded poly something foam) is the same foam used in Motorcycle helmets. It is probably the ideal foam to make a headrest. |

Van Cafe sells them for less than half of Bus Depot's price: http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_2088_1324/head_rest_pad_in_grey.html
Unfortunately, they are currently listed as "Out of Stock". Call them and ask when they're getting more. I bought four 2-3 months ago at $45/ea. _________________ 1990 Multivan - "Ohana"

I love VanCafe too but you missed the fact that Busdepot's price is for two units. If you are in California and really need the head rest inserts now you might save a few bucks in taxes with BusDepot. _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD
