I was trying to conjure a good insult, but came up empty brained. Nice pair you have there. Not something you see everyday, specially the Enduro. _________________ nothing |

Went to a vintage motorcycle swap meet today and saw a 1962 NSU Maxi basket case for sale. Very complete with a title for $700. I don't know much about them but I really like the styling of it, Anyone here an enthusiast of NSU's? _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

So I just returned home from a 3500 mile two week journey to the land O' lakes to visit family and friends. My grandmother turned 95, and it had been awhile since I had suffered through an attempted abduction by Raven-sized mosquitoes. Shortly before I left for the trip, my uncle called. He asked if I would be bringing my trailer, which of course I was. (gotta haul VW parts from junkyards to fund the trip costs). He then said he was giving me his Guzzi.
I am now the proud, and very happy owner of his 1993 Moto Guzzi California III. He bought it in 97 with about 5K on the clock. It now has just over 60K. He and my aunt rode this bike all over the place, including a trip out here to Idaho in 2000 for our weeding, then on up to Banff and many points North in Cnanda.
I took my initial cruise this afternoon. When I returned with a perma-grin on my face, I told my wonderful wife that it may just be time to get rid of all the damn VW's in the yard, as I rediscovered the reason why you never see a motorcycle parked in front of a psychiatrist's office. She was excited to ride on a motorcycle again, and even more excited to get rid of some of my heard of buses. (I have a very cool wife, she understands me and my hobby)
Now, how do I decide which bus goes first, and which bike comes in next to fill the gap?
The Goose looks a little like this...

Congrats on the Guzzi !
Any Guzzi is simply road magic. The odometer shows just how long lived and rideable they are.
Simply sell off any busses that are replaceable or wouldnt actually be used much if you had them all fixed up and roadworthy.
Start with those and work your way down to only a bus or two. As much as others may argue, you dont need anything more than a good driver and one project.
Bikes are FAR less effort and space consuming than a bus.
I pared everything down to just a splitty and one restored Ghia.
I also pared all the bikes down to just 3. Much happier now !
BTW...... once you get the Guzzi all sorted, you MUST ride downstate and pick up route 12 eastbound over to Lolo Montana !
Wouldnt hurt to camp or visit Jerry Johnson hot springs at the midway area either ! |

A few of mine over the years.. ..
I'm a a crotch rocket guy.. but really love the classics older than 1975..
Had quite a few over the years.. but this was one of my favorite rockets
..
Fast enough, handled great...but the seat planks were WAY too hard especially after at about the 200 mile mark....
Oh and fuel injection.... yes.. yes... no more tweakin'... just screamin'
01 CBR 600 F4I with my personal touches
^ That was the past... now on to the classic preset and future..
About 5 years ago, I "resurrected" my pops 1975 750 Four from my grandmothers cellar where it had rested for almost 20 years.
It "HAD" full dress with fairings and hard bags.. as pop used to haul it on the back of rental semi trucks and when he delivered them to various Southeastern states he unloaded the bike and rode it home..
When I pulled it from the damp and dark cellar, I stripped all the extras and bags off and was left with the mild ape hangers and king and queen seat..
Cleaned the tank and carbs, changed the oil.. and Vroooom.. back to life...
Spray bomb'd it from turdquoise respray to silver for IMO a more classier look..
Note the Harley rear wheel hoop re-spoked to the Honda hub. Helped lower the rear for the vertically challenged. I slide the forks up too
Later...and currently found a set of stock bars and a gorgeous original seat..
Nothing beats the sound.. .and all the same gear noises from when I used to hang on to pop..
And.. a kick starter really draws attention..
It seems like when ever I ride this one and park.. ... I hear lots of stories from admirers and on lookers.
Now on to my current project.. Pops old 69 305 "Dream"
He bought it in the late 70's with a supposed locked engine.. turned out to be the starter clutch bolts had backed out and locked the crank to the case...
Easy fix..
I rode it around a lot when I was younger.. but it hasnt had legal street use in over 30 years.
Thats something I plan to change..but of course...leave all the patina..
The sound.. if ya know them.. Bum..bum.bum..bum..bum... really thumps nice..

Thats beautiful color paintwork on that F4i ! Yeah, Im sure I couldnt live with that seat as a roadgoing bike.
Here's my old '98 F3. I did the 2" bar riser deal on it. It made it a nice 400 mile a day tourer then.
I have been on all models of CBR 600's all the way from the first F1 Hurricane to today.
I find the F3's have the best ergos for a touring sportbike, along with a good bit of technology to make them potent and capeable fun bikes. Cant beat the price nowadays either. Alotta bang for the buck. Theres a good reason they won their class back in the day for 600 production class.

|
|
Have not seen this thread in awhile. I play with VW powered Motorcycles (not trikes). Strictly VMW aka BMW /2 conversions with VW motors Like Butterfield, Willis 4's and Webley / Vickers.
I had hunted for one of these for decades. Finally found one. It is an Amazonas (Super Esporte model) Motorcycle from Brazil. 1600cc DP with a VW trans, still uses the 4 speed gear box to Chain drive the Motorcycle. And yes the bike still has reverse. If you take Rider Magazine it is in this months issue (June 2015) in an article written by Clement Salvadori in the Retrospective section. Bike is the only known, all Brazilian import, Amazonas in the US at this point. The handful of others came in 3 piece kit's from a distributor out of Texas. This bike only had 311km's (194 miles) on it when I found it and now about 415? something so it roughly has 258 miles since new.

I couldn't agree more about the F3's ..although ... I did like the 92 GSXR 600....
I've rode my share.. of CBR's..and was ready to try the F4i as it had that "9" feel. It was my last rocket..
Man.. what a pain in the ass.. literally.. Those seats were murder.. I used a gel pad.. and grips.. as I knew I would only keep it a couple of seasons..
If I would have kept it.. a bar raise and a seat was to be top priority..
It rode nicer after I lowered the rear... and it handled good.
I like 600's.. as they are much more nimble.. and always an easy sale in the spring..
When I sold it and took a 2 wheel'd hiatus .. the old 750- Four.. had always been on my mind.. Whenever I picked up a different rocket Pop would ask me.. " Why dont you get the 750 going instead?".. Now I know why... It brings back so many memories.. I doubt Ill ever go back to the rockets.. Its just has this nice simple feel to it.. and the sounds it makes.. are forever imbedded and priceless.
Im done with the long hauls for now.. If I get the urge back.. Ill buy another... something.. modern.

Here's one of the reasons my VW's are not being given all the attention they need.
Its a '89 Pacific Coast. 800 V-Twin. Smooth as silk though, just like a Goldwing.
The entire back lifts up to access a HUGE rear trunk on both sides.
62 MPG, and so silent, you can hear the sound of your tires at 50 MPH.
Its my all time favorite pavement day tripper..........and I have had around 70 different bikes !
