So I finally decided on some tires. Here we go:
1964
185/65 15 Kumho Solus KR21 all the way around
Stock 4" rims
Stock height
I know the gap in the front is a little weird but compared to the handling and just overall feel they are well worth it. It will just motivate me to lower it that much sooner. |

dropped beam, stock width, stock smoothies in front with 175/55/15 continentals. I will be going lower with dropped spindles.
Rear is 8" smoothies, 3.75" backspace, 225/50/15, down one outer spline
One side tucks without rubbing, the passenger side has rubbed a shiny spot on the inner lip of the fender. It's really close

Is it rubbing on the outside fender, or inside? And what offset are your wheels? I'm looking to go 17s on my bug and want to make sure inner clearance is right.
Thanks. |

I'm currently trying to figure out specs for a set up I've been interested in for a while now. I have a '63 bug with everything stock minus the 1776 I have in the rear.
I want my bug to look like this '58:
or like:
or:
Here is my bug as is:
I'm going to install disc brakes all around, drop spindles, and I'd like to add either 5.5" or 6" deep smoothies in the front, and 7" or 8" in the rear. I've been talking to a few guys, and have been lurking tons. I'm wondering if I need to narrow my beam to tuck these wheels in, what size tires I'd need for the front and rear. I'm trying to go for the flush slammed look–while keeping the ride smooth enough to drive everyday. I commute to school and work in my bug so I need to keep things practical and safe (while lookin' good). Any suggestions? _________________ '63 Volkswagen Type 1. Stock -(1776 cc) |

^ The dark blue bug above is mine...
I don't have a narrowed beam, just adjusters and reduced lock on the steering. However almost all disk brake kits will increase track and with 6 inch rims on the front it wouldn't work... |
