|
|
Hi all, I have recently purchased a neat 1976 beetle and have been driving it around for the past few months, after realizing that lowered cars are impractical and not real what I need I'm now going to baja it!
Now this is not my first baja, I have a mid travel car in the build but currently it is half done and at my parents place (as I have no room to store it)
So I want to get some clearance under it and make it perform a bit better off road. Here's what I'm thinking :
FRONT
- factory ball joint beam
- T.I 3.5" raised spindles
- KYB gas-a-just shocks (white ones)
- Hook and rod bump stop kit
- 215/75 r 15 tyres
REAR
- atomwerk 3" raised springplates
- Stock IRS trailing arms but boxed up for strength
- KYB shocks (Not sure on length needed)
- 31/10.5 r15 tyres
DRIVE-TRAIN/ ENGINE
- Std type 1 gearbox?
- Padded transaxle straps
- T2 or 930 C.V kit ?
Engine will be my own 2109cc T1 with FK-8 cam and 44 webers ect.
Really just after some insight as to how the rear suspension setup sounds and Shock absorber mounts ect. Cheers. |

REAR
- Atomwerks 3" raised springplates
- Stock IRS trailing arms but boxed up for strength ( look in AEHs gallery to see how he did his, which I copied )
- KYB shocks (Not sure on length needed) ( Stock with the Atomwerks plates ) |

DRIVE-TRAIN/ ENGINE
- Std type 1 gearbox? ( stressed big time between the monster motor and the sticky tires )
- Padded transaxle straps
- T2 or 930 C.V kit ? ( T4 or 930 CVs, more angularity than T2 ) |

Please post plenty of progress pics. Someday I hope to get a second bug for a baja project and it will be great to see your progress from start to finish (if these projects are truly ever finished). Thanks, buggy man! |

Save the sheet metal and build a Class 11 car. They are a blast.
Here's one I raised for my friend Mark. It's a 1975 with raised, disc brake spindles, and re-indexed rear torsion bars. It rides like a stock bug, and goes anywhere the Baja does. _________________ OK Thang |

Nothing.. I have been building a baja with 3x3's ect. I'm going to take the bug body off that and put a sharpbuilt on it.
But that all takes some serious cash and time to build it the way i want, so converting this will get me offroad and on a few buggy club runs in the mean time. |
