|
Any advice from you old timers? Just married 2 days ago. 2nd time. She is into my VW habit..especially the car shows and events. Want to keep it that way. I have the basics down (i.e. we have good balance between VW and stuff she likes) |

I've been married 19 years- with her since 1988. I've got this down.
Always invite her. Share your excitement in every detail- she'll light up on the experiences you've had that may spark her fancy (BBQs vs. Drive Ins, stories about your friends vs. stories about mechanics, etc.). She'll come alive on particular things- listen and act. Soon, you wont' have to talk shop- you can just brag about the show or your buddy's engine fire that caused a HS evacuation.
My only hope: she won't want to go on road trips with you and your buddies.
Good luck. _________________

First off Congratulations Mr Fickits! I wish you and your Mrs the best! I've been blessed with the same woman 25 yrs.
With that being said, I've always taken an interest in my wife's hobbies. Support and encourage her in whatever her interests are. My wife quilts, so I end up going to various fabric shops, sometimes spending an hour or more just looking at fabric for her latest creations. I also am asked constantly about different combinations for her quilts. This for a guy who's only idea of colors coordination was chosen by Volkswagen. |

Bitter much?
My wife loves the bug, helps me keep it clean and goes to the events with me and my son. I just don't push it. No car parts in the dishwasher, no greasy paw prints on the couch, that kind of thing.
16 years and counting. |

Bitter? #$^* yeah.
16 years? Pshaw - try 21 years and you (a guilty male) still get f#/^ed over.

13 years an counting here. My wife doesn't share my hobby, but she supports me. I don't always share hers either, but I definitely support her.
To us, that is the key. Support each other. Let them do what they want, and cover for them while they go enjoy themselves.
Congrats on your nuptials. Make it last, it's worth it. I went to my parents 50th a short while back. They are very happy people. _________________ nothing |

As several have said, listen, and keep her involved. I'm going on 21 years with my lovely wife this June and it truly does get better every year. Remember, it's not 50/50 in a marriage, but 100/100. Congratulations! _________________ OK Thang |

33 years this summer. My wife runs, I DON'T. I am into VWs, she isn't. Now, that being said, she will go to shows and some club events, I have gone to a run finish line for her. We have our own interests, but we do support each other. I don't ask how much a run costs or the last pair of shoes. She doesn't ask how much I spend on my VWs. Fortunately we both are fairly sensible about our hobby and what we spend. Remember, all things in moderation. Do not spend money you don't have on a hobby. Or money you need for rent, food, diapers, etc. You are very fortunate to have a wife that is interested in VWs, teach her and encourage her to help you. Wax on, wax off is even helpful!! The more she learns, the more she will want to do. Just my 2 cents worth. Dave J _________________ 1962 Ghia vert

1. Listen very closely for the clues - "I thought we could ___ this weekend...", etc. and don't try to fit the bug in when the hint is dropped. 2. Look very closely for the clues - like when you come inside after finishing supper and it's now bedtime and you get the glance that suggests you were out there too long. 3. Don't consistently work on the bug. Sometimes, you should only work for a short period of time and quit. Sometimes, you should take a break from working on it even if you don't have something else planned. 4. Sit and watch TV with her (or something else) even when you would rather be working on the bug. 5. Remember that you married her and not the bug. |
