Hello again,
These boards were super helpful during my last issue, which by the way in case you are wondering, no, I have not installed the new transmission yet. However, the guidance provided here on the samba has made me feel like when I get to it the results will be worth the wait.

New question:
I have the early run 38/38 Egas carb on my 1600 dp engine. A while back my throttle cable snapped and I replaced it myself, after a few days she began stalling out once she became hot. Since then I have become accustomed to tapping the gas at lights and stop signs to keep her from stalling. She runs great at any other time. I am learning about her as she breaks more or less, and have no experience with working on cars prior to owning her. I use the idiots guide and the Bentley to find problems and repair them but this one has eluded me. I believe it has to do with electric choke but I am not sure how to adjust it on this carb. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Side note: During my most recent tune-up, I replaced the spark plugs and discovered that my No. 4 plug was fouled up, completely black. No. 3 was dark but the tips were still light grey and I know that 3 runs the hottest. any thoughts?

Thanks again for your time.

Is the carb on a open plenum manifold? Does the EMPI carb have two air fuel screws like a Weber? If it is on open plenum manifold and the carb has two a/f screws try closing one off and set your idle on one, you have to do this on Holley bugspray's and Zenith's (I think) or you will have plug fowling problems.

I looked up the definition of a plenum manifold, and I am not sure of the pressure within the manifold, so I can not rightly say if it is or not. When I get home today I will take some photos and post them, so long as I have the time. The Empi version does have two A/F screws and I took your advice and she is idling much better. I am going to give her a thorough tune up on Wednesday and see if that helps any further.
