Or I'm probably confused. I'm trying to identify the original white color of my 1970 kombi- which has the pop-top and sink and table and such. When I go to: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/colorstype2.php
and look at the table for "Panelvan - Kombi - Single Cab - Double Cab" for year 1970 there are two options for white (because the paint type apparently changes in August) I see "L 282 (42) lotus white" for Aug '68 through July '70, and I see "L 90 D (06) pastel white" for August onward (I realize TheSamba page includes tables for westfalia colors as well, but they don't run through 1970 and I'm not clear how these tables relate to my vehicle). When I go to the vw-mplate decoder website and plug in my m-plate numbers, I get "L87 Pearl White".
Why does the VW-Mplate decoder give a paint that is apparently not identified in the tales posted on TheSamba site?

Also, is it in the original scheme to paint the pop-top, bumpers, and rims always a bright white?
Just curious on the original paint schemes.
thanks.

August is when the model year changes.
So August, 1970 is the 1971 model year.

A 68-70 Bus should be Lotus White according to the charts.

Please post your M-code plate information, the color code is on the plate.

Bumpers and Wheels are Cloud White according to the page above.

I am not sure on the pop-top but I am sure you could find this information by searching the Bay Window Bus Forum.
This thread with a ton of links may help, I found it quickly by searching poptop paint there:

Thanks for the input. M-Plate is:
02 147 511
517 518 697
523907 D26 H67 026 507
09 4 7758 UA 2310 21

I understand 523907 to be the critical numbers, with 907 coding to L87 Perl White. Is this correct?

Yes, 523907 is Pearl White for Westfalias.

The charts are the site that I repeated above are the stock colors for Kombis/Deluxes, not for Westys.
In this case though you can see the Split Bus Westy colors on the page above include 523907 as I guess that remained the same for Bay Windows.

So yes, your bus is Pearl White.

As far as I know the bumpers/wheels/etc. are still Cloud White, even on a Westy.

I took my westy to the shop to be painted, figuring it would be straight forward to look up the correct original color. I want to be absolutely sure, so I could use some help please.

I write down the Mplate information, then it needs to be decoded? can you please send me the link to where I go to decode the Mplate info.

Much appreciated!

Jim
