You guys got some awesome collection, hope someday I could have somthing like that.
I have this early vwoa battery , 6v the one with the united states logo. I would love to run this in my 56 cabrio, know of anyone that can rebuld them or modified them (opima battery inside the box) etc. _________________ North Hollywood, CA

These are the only two "Tar Tops" that I can find being currently made in Germany, for VW's anyway?
This one from a company called "Dieter Schmidt Lorenz"
$174.00 shipped
This one from "Status VW" in the UK. $164.00 shipped.
I would like to get either one of these, put a Bosch Badge and some Bosch caps for the tops... _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Another option would be a retro battery kit. Inky Ford has this photo listed in the gallery. The kit includes lead bars and the badge to dress up a modern battery to look old.

I bought this Bosch cutaway battery yesterday at Techno Classica in Germany. I would swap it against a Varta.

Hi guys. Does anyone have an example of a early 1970's battery? Or photos of one? Thanks!

Thanks! I saw one in the manual:
I wasn't sure what year this was and what the "oval" areas on the top of the battery were (to the left and right of the battery fill caps).
Did Beetles have batteries in them when they were shipped to the US? Or were they installed when they arrived?
Thanks! _________________ 1965 Beetle

Mirror hanging battery check guage. They hung this on your mirror after they checked your battery to tell you what kind of shape it was in.

Funny how the battery has a type 3 part number. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I just found this thread. I too have one of these batteries, but not as nice as this one pictured above! I have a crack/split vertically in one side of my battery, and I'm missing one cap (have an WTB ad in my classifieds looking for the missing cap). I too would be very interested in finding a service that could use the outer shell to make a complete running battery with new guts... For now, it sits on display on a shelf in my basement. Very cool looking VWoA battery!

I always liked the old VWOA batteries but they are pretty tough to fine. Finally found one but it was a little rough around the edges so I spent a few hours "freshening" it up. Not perfect but turned out better than I expected. Here are before and after pictures.

Thanks. I'd like to find an original box too but they are probably harder to find than the battery. |
