So here is the deal, I welded on a new to me front clip on my 65' Beetle and since I had to cut thru the weatherstrip channeling there is a gap. So should I take off all of the old channeling and weld a new piece in or there another way to go about doing this?

I want it to look good and not hacked.

Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have a picture? I recently welded on a new to me front clip on my '65 also and just did small tack welds on those areas. Then used my Dremel with a cutoff wheel to grind down. It's not perfect, but with a little more attention I think I can get it to blend pretty good.

I hear ya. I'm still learning and blow holes through stuff too. I'm saving all the "fine tuning" and more precision stuff for last and that area is pretty delicate. Hopefully I'll have learned a few things by doing the bulk of my repairs and then apply that to filling in small holes, etc to make things look nicer.
It really depends though on how big of a gap there is. If it's too big you may need to buy a strip and splice it in??? Here are a few pics of mine. The gaps were pretty small so it helped. Good luck!!!
