What parts would you clean and what would you use?? I was thinking of cleaning the majority of carbon out with a popsicle stick and then soaking the intake, pipes and cooler in diesel for a couple of days to clean the inside of the intake and use a tooth brush on the inside of the EGR valve to keep the outside of the valve safe. Also would you bother with the intake ports on the head while the head is still on the engine and in the car? I don't want to get any carbon down in the cylinder area. I have bought a spare intake, EGR valve, pipes and cooler off of a junkyard ALH to clean to put on the car.

The manifold is usually what cokes up the most. The tight bends inside it make it hard to clean out. The most thorough way I have seen to clean one out is to burn out the crap in it. Get an torch, compressed air, and a nice non flamable place to work. The egr valve can usually be scraped clean manually.

I might try to first clean the intake in a professional power hot water parts washer and then in diesel. I have never tried the torch option but I have an asphalt stain remover torch on hand to clean spots off the driveway.

Soak overnight, wire brush and or coat hanger for scraping bends.
