Goodday!

I am trying to fit a Dormobile roof to my '77 Bay but after cutting the hole last night I found out that the frame I got with my setup doesnt match the curve of the roof (see pictures) In different topics they write different things about split en bay differences frame and roof wise. For example that the red tartan fabric is only used on bay windows which is the one that came with my frame Smile Should the dorm top follow the roofline exact?

Cheers CJ

looks like your going to have to modify. edit your hole is too far back(see red 71 dormobile) should work though yours is a 77 I think mounted were you have it, will be better aerodynamically. Test fit your top, see what the gaps are.

X2, as in hinge on the correct side?
Here's some discussion on locations: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=559199 bay roofs have slightly less curve than a split and you can put a bay roof on a split with a little work, the only thing that may be an issue is if your bus was a pop top Westfalia as those roof profiles different.

If the top was on a bus that had the passenger seat cooker - the top was fitted more forward on the bus to accommodate this. A Definite Euro - UK fitment. But if the bus was US bound and fitted to a Westfalia then the roof was fitted further back because there was no cooker behind the pass seat.

So my question is will this front back fitment of the tops affect the curve of the frame? A US top as opposed to a UK one?

I have an original walter martin roof on my 1970 westfalia, the fit is perfect, is there any chance the frame you have is from a splitty.I think the roof crown is different.

Splits have a slightly deeper curve on the roof than a bay so the problem would be the opposite of CJL's.

I contacted Dormobile and they couldn't help me either. The red tartan bunks belong to a late bay so the roof should fit my '77. I tried to fit it in every single way, more forward, more back flipped around ...

This is what the roof fitting looks like ...
