Staying married and VWs have nothing to do w/ each other. YOu can stay married to her....VW or not. Laughing

By all means, take her to the shows and stuff. I take my wife to the drags and swap meets.

I completely separate the hobby and the wifey most of the time. The main thing is keep the money coming to her all the time. And you will have to finance this hobby from some other means other than your main income. Because when you start tapping into the house money she will not appreciate it.

Other than that I mentioned, have at it. Should be some fun for you as we had a long time ago in this love affair w/ this car.

Good advice! I'm a big fan of moderation and balance with all things in life. I believe that those us that are able to have a hobby with this economy are lucky. Lots of buddies who aren't so lucky.

just marry a good one like I did.racecars, dirtbikes, fourwheelers, cancer,vw's boats,etc,+6 kids.and shes still right hear by my side.....must be the life insurance Shocked no couldent be that she would of knocked me off by now. she does occassionaly drive my bug to work.but she would rather be in her element. If you use your car to get away from her...then she might just need to get away from you. remember it's a fricken car!!! just a car!!! smaller than a ford biger than a yugo, but still just a car. if you are constantly working on the vw you might want to take it to somebody else so it can be fixed right.these cars are extreamly simple.and require little to no work if put togeather right.just oil change&valve adjustment/check 1 time a year, then be done and forget about it.but keep your eyes&ears open.

I all ways make sure the more important stuff is done 1st--House/yard/firewood ect. any thing thats Hubby stuff to do is done 1st, then it's Vw time. She used to go w/me to VW shows when the kids were young, now it's, "Go, have fun"..........

Agreed. Be Strategic in the time you spend on the vw's. If shit is handled around the house and she knows vw-time makes you happy then its irrelevant if she is into it or not, if she's cool. It's a bonus if she wants to hear your daily mundane updates on metric threaded bolts or bad condensors or that one year only part that listed in the classifieds today.

Another strategy is to make sure she has a VW thats hers. That was my trick. Sell parts so the household funds aren't chewed up any more than cash she wastes on stupid shit. Thats my advice.

Be yourself life is short.

Make sure your heater is working, so she never gets cold riding in your VW. Split the net profit with her on all parts sales. She will even help you wrap the big parts for shipping! Very Happy

we've been married 30 years. My wife HATES my cars.

do the chores around the house first. Hell, every now and then do one of her chores.
Keep the garage clean and organized- in my house it's easier to leave through the garage, so when she has to step over an engine it pisses her off. I can tell when she's pissed cause she throw out the trash, hitting my showroom beetle in the meantime.

and have heat in the garage- when your having an argument is when you'll get the most work done on your car, you might as well be warm

My wife dies at 39 years old in 1987. My soul has been numb every since.

This is what I told her when we met. "And then my soul saw you and it kind of went, Oh there you are. I've been looking for you."

This April 6th would have been 45 years. We took our honeymoon in a new 1966 VW Beetle.

Good stuff in this thread. Married 30 years. Have had a Beetle for 12.

Someone said, "Support each other." Yep. Whether she likes the Beetle or not. Be there for her and she will eventually see that the Beetle makes you happy and so you make her happy.

Someone else said, listen carefully. I still miss some of the trick questions but I'm getting better. Chances are, if she's asking you, it's because she's already decided what she wants to do and she's just letting you know.

And Shortride, your post really touched me. I hope you can continue to treasure your wife's memory while you move on and maybe find someone else to make happy.

Mr. Fickits
I met my wife of 42 years when she brought her '55 VW panel to me to do a tune up.
She has been driving VW's and Volvos ever since.
First thing I did when I built our home was to ask her where she wanted her
new sewing room.
After that was built I was free to build my shop
She helps with the brake bleeding all the time.
remember happy wife happy life
best wishes

My wife and I have been together 20 plus years, the first time she walked into my house years ago she said "what's that?", I said it was a Harley Davidson and she asked why it was in the living room. I explained to her it was so I could watch tv while I worked on it. She knew what she was getting when she married me so it hasn't been a problem.

Yep. I often answer, "Why, yes of course, Alex."

Her name is not Alex.

It is for the host of Jeopardy where as you know, the answer comes in the form of a question.

Oh, and there, I fixed it for ya:
