I have a 57 Ragtop Sedan with a 1600 DP that I believe to be from the 70's it has a doghouse cooler. Since my brother bought the car (which I inherited) the rear decklid has to remain open at the top to avoid contact with the carb. Even when the car had dual carbs on it the decklid would not close.
As I have been learning more about the car (I'm a Harley guy) I noticed that the shroud is farther away from the firewall than it is in other Bugs.
Can anyone tell me the reason for this and how to correct the situation and close the decklid???
Thanks |

My thoughts goes to the transmission, and wrong front mount. Then you will get wrong angle on the engine and transmission. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

Are you saying that it has an incorrect front mount? |

If you put in an one piece transmission (1960 and newer) in an oval, you need another front part on the transmission (from old T2), or make a new frontmount in the pan to get it right. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

This sounds like an easy fix.
All I need to do is locate a front mount from a pre-1960 Type 2 and bolt it onto my pan.
Correct? |

. No, you need to change the transmission front nose cone. You could do us (and yourself) a big favor by posting up some pictures of the front of the trans from underneath so we can see what you have. These are old cars and like Harley's can be a real Frankenstein. |
