So I just picked up one of these, it came with a package deal of parts
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Merged-Competition-Exhaust-w-Stinger-1-1-2-1-5-8-p/2008-2008-11.htm
It's a 1 5/8" and ceramic coated. I had been wanting to go with a sidewinder style for the stroker in my bug, but as this is here I'm thinking of using it. Does anyone have any experience as to how low it hangs? I'm not super slammed in my car, but I am worried that it might be too low. If anyone has this on their car, maybe you could post a picture for me to see how far it hangs down/ out? |

Another one for you from a different angle:
I've scraped the muffler on driveways a couple of times, but the header itself is mounted as high as possible and pretty good IMO.

so , here is the problem I'm faced with. Surprising as the header itself seems to be of very nice quality, perhaps it isn't a bug pack brand? The tubes for 1 and 3 are a slip fit into the collector. It is a PITA to get on the engine, and interferes with the oil connection coming out of the pump cover.
So I spend some time and money re engineering this thing, or toss it to the swap meet pile and order one of my original choices.. Probably a stainless sidewinder. Or order a better fitting merged header as I have the muffler with the o2 bung welded into the elbow already. |

I say just use it! That's how my headers are too and I just tied them away from the exhaust with safety wire.
There is also the EMPI oil line holder 17-2810. I'm sure a more reputable company makes something similar. |

Can't help you with the Bugpack, but the Berg 1-5/8" clears the thermostat and the oil pump.

Glenn and John, thanks for those pictures. There is no doubt the A1 and Berg headers are top notch, but I was trying to finish this engine up without any more $300+ surprise purchases. I guess you have to pay to play right? I'm going to take some advice and use a 45* AN fitting out of the pump cover, pointed up, and some heat sleeve over the line. The other issue, is that the #1 pipe is too close to the case for the thermostat, but there is a plan in the works to get around that. This will at least get the engine in the car and running for Junes show at Maple Grove Raceway |

I've been using a ceramic-coated Bugpack header on my 2332 cc for over 6 years. This Beetle is 95% street & 5% drag strip, as I race the weekly street legal events 10-15 times per year. Mine is coupled with an A1 Magnaflow DRK muffler from ACN.
I've been very happy with Bugpack's quality (thick flanges & good welding) and the header still looks new:) _________________ Neil.
