Another thread brought back a memory from wayyyyy back. 1986 I believe but, the 80's were a bit hazy.
So anyhow, I was about 23 or 24, girl totally broke my heart, I was basically failing out of college and thought I'd give it one more semester. So, I applied for a student loan and got it. Well, what a heart broken 23 yr old stoner going to do with $3500 cash? Why, build a 1915 with dual carbs, what else !!! Needless to say, I didn't make it to college that year.
Anyhow, there were two somewhat competing shops in Joplin Missouri then. Sharps VW and another fellow that build rail buggies. Sharps built my engine.
The other fellow was a DRUNK.. mean drunk but there was one person meaner, that was his wife. At the time, I worked at a convenience store called Snak Atak on Stone Corner. About 4 miles up the road from the old drunks buggy place. His nasty azz old lady would come in there and buy 4 packs of cigs and a case of beer every night.
Well, we get the car done and so proud of it of course I leave the deck lid off so as to show it off in all its glory.
Well, sometime over the course of the last few days, someone had made it with the engine out of buggy. A big 2180. Of course it probably wasn't very hard since they were both passed out by 9:00 PM and he'd just get parked half sideways in the driveway before rolling out drunk and slobbering off to bed.
Well, there I am standing at the counter at work and in she walks, blistered drunk. She's going settle the score with that theivin' kid at the gas station.
Why she calls me every name in the book, picks up some stuff off the counter and throws it at me, and my boss is looking' at me like WTF is going on here ??!!
Well, the cops show because she called them and they haul her off for drunken disorderly. WHEW... glad that's over with.
Then, here comes the husband an hour later. He looks the engine over a couple times, crawls under the car and deems its not his, but I'm still an azzhole and he'll get even with me someday. My engine was stamped with the builders initials and that was good enough for the law.
And there you have the story of the drunken buggy builder and his stolen engine. Come to find out, it was his employee that stole it. _________________ Royals 2015 World Champions

They gave it to you far worse than I heard (twinkies and lighters). I should give them their motor back, my bad..
I wonder if Joplin bail on the Mrs. was less than the cost of the red plastic dizzy cap and pulley dress up kit! _________________
