|
|
I have a 1985 VW Cabriolet that has a stalling issue that has me kind of stumped. Once the car is warmed up, it has a tendency to stall intermittently. I'll be driving along and suddenly it feels like I ran out of gas (the engine dies). I can sometimes feather the throttle and it starts up again as long as I'm coasting at a decent speed, but it will stall out if I'm going slow or stopped. On the odd occasion, when starting up, it will stumble or stall if I rev the engine. I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel accumulator and filter, with no results. Plugs are good. Any ideas out there? _________________ 61 Type 1 Sedan |

That leaves fuel pump relay and Ignition Control Module(ICM), coil and poss hall sender. I would count out ign switch either. |

Did you replace both fuel pumps? I could be wrong but some had an in tank "transfer pump" and then the fuel pump externally mounted inline |

Well, that is another component to check. I may need to find someone who can test fuel pressure, etc. I know a couple of guys, so I hope we can figure this one out.
Thanks _________________ 61 Type 1 Sedan |

Look at tach when messes up.... If falls to zero, its ignition... If it hovers slowely dropping when coasting its fuel.....
Spark allows fuel... No spark, no fuel... As how relay works.... Make jumper wire to eliminatepump relay... Terminals that make T in shape is ones to jump... Pump will run as long as jumped _________________ Click to view image |

The Tach slowly drops. I'll check the pump relay. Thanks. _________________ 61 Type 1 Sedan |
