I recently bought my wife a new Polo sedan and took her old car that she bought new in 2009, the VW Citi Storm.
Don't know if you guys are familiar with the Citi Golf, it's basically a MK I Golf that VW South Africa kept producing as an entry level car in the S.A. market with GREAT sucsess, they have been updating the car throughout the years and in 2009 they decided that they were stopping production as the car and design and tooling changes would just become too expensive too keep up with the EURO Ncap ratings..
August 2009 saw the last Citi Golf roll off the production line, the one I have is a March 2009 model, so last year of production.
It features a 1.4 fuel injected engine, airbags, the 'udated' dashboard is a Skoda unit - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%A0koda_Fabia , that was adapted to the Citi by VW S.A. and a lot of features the original MK I didn't have, read more about it here: VW Citi Golf - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Citi_Golf
This car is still dead standard as it came from the factory, barring the window tinting and the eyelid on the front

That's a clean citi golf. I've never seen the interior on one. How many horses does that 1.4 produce?

Kepa Acero rents one of these in Namibia in his 5 waves 5 continents project. I couldn't figure out what it was, mk1 or mk2, but now it makes total sense.

Thanks.. This one has the 73hp output engine (same engine as the 84hp version, just different mapping in the ECU & slightly lower CR)

Hey Guys,

Look at what I got my grubby little paws on for the Citi Golf..
As soon as I have time they will be dropped off to be repainted & detailed like I want them..

Yup, the coilovers will be next, need to just get the wheels detailed first..

Things are going a bit slow, the engineering shop didn't get the adapters done as I wanted them, now I have to wait until the bolt & nut manufacturer opens for business later this month to get longer bolts to mount the adapters to my disks..
I'll post updates & photos as soon as I can.. Cool

Ok guys..
Time for a little update.. I got the wheels fitted with tires (Yokohama A539), the adapters where finished, I even sorted a Porsche spare wheel out for the Golf.
Here are some pictures of the wheels, spare and the wheels fitted to the car, next step - lower the suspension!

Very nice. I like the way they moved the mirrors to the A-pillar instead of mid door. I have Porsche phone dials on my Vanagon (T3 Microbus/Caravelle in RSA). They did make phone dials which direct bolt on for the 4x100mm wheel bolt pattern. Unfortunately, they are rare these days. Where's the Porsche guys are getting rid of their phone dials because they are so heavy.

They kind of had to with the one piece windows. I prefer the wing window on the older Mk1s which then required the side mirrors to be mounted where they were.

Do like how the color matched phone dials look with this car.

There are all kinds of vehicles with one-piece windows and still have the mirror towards the middle of the door. It was likely styling considerations why the mirror was moved.

Purely for aesthetic reasons, I don't like wing windows.😉

I really dig the phone dials. Nice job getting a correct spare, too - great attention to detail. I had no idea they produced these in SA so recently. I like the interior, very simple and purposeful. Those taillights are pretty cool too. I can't wait to see this thing lowered!

Wow, thanks for the last replies guys, can't beleive it's been more than a year since I posted here, life gets in the way I suppose.
The car was in an accident recently, some fool skipped a traffic light and hit the right front corner of the car, I'll be getting it back tomorrow from the panelshop.
I think it's time to sell it, any opinions?

Went to the panelshop, the car was painted & shiny, with a botch up jop on panel gaps, overspray, parts missing, etc. and these guys are a so-called VW approved repair centre! Mad
They are re-adjusting gaps & sorting out the other stuff now.. Will get it back next week only..
