hi everybody/anybody!!

I need help please... Judson 36hp is running hot - similar to thread posted - 10 to 20 mins runs OK then engine loses power - allow to cool - engine runs again for approx another 10 - 15 mins loses power.

Unit reconditioned approx 800 miles ago by Alejandro.
Receives correct amount of lubrication.
Tension of belts correct.
Stronger fuel pump spring fitted.
Correct fuel jets
Engine itself runs cool - points, tappets and timing all correct.
Charger not noisy, just slight tick at idle but disappears
New 6v coil fitted.

Charger housing hot to touch (can place hand on housing for only a couple of seconds max).
Condensation appears on carb when charger housing hot but not on manifold neck.

I'm running out of options - going to replace spark plugs, plug leads and check carb for any blockages etc

Please, please can anyone advise

Check fuel pressure, check timing (makes a huge difference) , check pump push rod isn't stiff.

Any noise issues when it happens, any pinking?

thanks for replies

Engine good - no end float etc - good barrels and pistons etc.

fuel pump got stronger spring in it - but will check push rod if thats what you mean - how would i check fuel pressure ? timing is fine but will check and check again haha no pinking tappets spot on

going to strip carb this weekend - thinking it could be fuel starvation maybe ???? but clutching at straws

I had a problem with new piston/cyls on my Judson engine, due to insufficient piston ring end gap causing a "soft seizure" loss of power when hot.

interesting - thanks avus - will check for compression - not much smoke if any on start up
Cheers

I fitted a fuel pressure gauge in line from the outlet to the carb just to check the pressure. Should be around 2 psi.

Check if the intake air to the fan could be getting blocked. Possibly the fiberboard in front of shroud. If loose it can cause intermittent blockage and overheating.

cheers for the idea - fiberboard fixed in place - fram oil cooler coil would stop it in front of shroud

had a very similar thing on mr okrasa engine when i first put it in the car… could drive beautifully for 20 minutes them boom…. no power…. couldn't get it to start etc until it was dead cold…. had me on the side of the road half a dozen times…. then i found the power to the reg was barely connected…. fixed that and never had an issue ever since… maybe worth checking?

Did you measure the temprature of the Judson ? I also have one from aljandro and when I am accelarating a lot the Judson can get 110C (230F). But when I'am driving at constant speed, It will stay around the 60C - 80C (140F - 176F).

I don't loose any power with those tempatures.

Does your engine runs well without the supercharger?

Had the same sort of problem with my zwitter. Stock 40hp engine. Could drive normal for 1/2 hour then die. Turned out to be a little piece of shite in the fuel valve. I rebuilt the valve , put in a new tank and blew out the line. Jim

I think I have sorted it (hopefully)

Manifold stud in cylinder head - threads had stripped - air leak ! - studs replaced - much tighter fit now.

Tension pulley for supercharger - did run really hot - turned out that the bearings were knackered - replaced with cooler running bearings - tension pulley does not even get warm now.

Engine runs better than it ever has.....so hopefully problem solved.......!!!!????

Can I just say a big, big thank you for all comments and ideas.

Andrew
