My 412 fastback had been sitting dead in my garage for the past two years. The reason? A stripped bolt in the engine case! Finally I got the $$$$ together to have it AAA towed to a shop in Seattle where the plan was to take out the engine, take it all apart, and see how bad the damage was. Well it was bad - the case was indeed cracked and was deemed worthless. So they took a new/old case and built up a 2055cc engine with hydraulic lifters, tossed the 34idf Webers and replaced them with 40idfs. Took two months but I got it back yesterday and the car goes like a rocket! What a huge improvement! It cost a few dollars but the engine is a work of art and runs beautifully. So now I'm back to having three up-and-running Type Fours in my garage, a great feeling.

yes! that's me and the late Julie Aleva with our respective 412s in 2003 in Seattle. Julie died a year later and her father sold her 412 to me. Both cars are in my garage in mint condition.

Load your VW pics to your Gallery. You can show them in your Posts by copy/paste the upper right box with 'img' on both ends.

You have the best combination of good-riding ACVW with your 2+liter stick-shift fastback! Will you venture out on a longer road trip once you have some shakedown miles?

I met Julie and her 412 wagon in 2000 when she was in the Denver area (Golden) during the GeneBerg Cruise, stopping off at the VW meet at Bandimere Raceway. Do you get out in the wagon much?

Hey that's great you met Julie! I met her in 2003 when the Gene Berg Cruise came through Seattle. We greeted each other like long-lost siblings, the only other 412-crazy people we'd ever met. Of course I had no idea Julie would die a year later, and that her father would contact me about taking Sparkie. Of course it's a hell of an honor, and Sparkie is in perfect condition nine years after I brought her home.

I have 300 miles for a break-in on the other one. I was going to take a long trip to the Southwest but plans have changed. I bought the car in 2002 on ebay in Pittsburgh. My son and I took the train from Seattle and drove it home across America in a week, no problems at all.

I'll be entering both cars in the Northwest VW Show in Seattle on July 19th. It will be the first time there will be two 412s at the show. I'm always the only one, but this year I'll drive one and my wife will drive the other one.

Your 2 door is the twin sizter of mine. Mine is a 11-72 marathon blue metallic two door 4 speed. Maybe in year you wont be tbe only one. My entire front suspension is on my work benches stripped to bare metal. It all gets painted in the next week. Every last nut bolt and ushing is new. I chatted with Julie a few times as she was mainly on the stf at the time. Awesom lady. She is missed. Ray
