Can anyone tell me if a Judson supercharger would work on a 1600dp engine?? What modifications would be needed, if any (other than the pulley)?? What is the lifespan of these?? I realize that this is a rare option for VW and was introduced in the late 50's..but having a supercharged engine in a bus sounded really cool Shocked

No!....cool it won't be.

The Judson was made for the 1200cc engine, that extra 400cc is too big a difference.

Correct you are, pointless for a 1600. A 40hp with a judson is amazing though in a bug, so much fun. If you want some extra power through boost, I would go with this:

but on a 1600 in a bus, how hot would that run?

You'll have to spin the Judson faster to make up those extra 400cc which will create extra friction heat. The heat-sink fins on the Judson are too small to channel away that extra heat so the heat builds up and up to....melt down.

It's a toss-up to decide what will go first...engine or supercharger. Sad

The supercharger or the turbo? For the turbo, I would be sure to use external cooling to keep things in check. Unfortunately for the supercharger, it would be overworked and fail.

Marvel Mystery Oil. It's available in quart size from your local WalMart & automotive supply stores for about $5.

Just regular pump gas will work fine

It runs very good, lost of torque..
