the look perfect as is... not sure what color your car is, but i would leave them as is...
id take the other two bad ones and have them widened 2" inches to run staggered set.... still bias-ply tires.... |

I have a set of these that I have tried to fit on a 1955 Porsche (which has wheel studs not bolts) and the just do not fit. Yet a VW and Porsche rim are inter changeable. What has to be done to make these fit? |

Attached are photos of the tires and the rim trying to fit on a 356 brake drum. The rim is off on being centered on the studs by about 2mm on the edge of the holes closest to the center of the brake drum. Even if you opened up the bolt holes it appears it would be impossible to have the rims center on the taper of the lug nut or bolt in case of the VW. The original holes in the rims are not on the same center as VW or Porsche rims. What has anyone done to correctly fix this? Attached are a few photos where you can see what I am describing.

They fit on my bug and bus drums. I would check your studs for being square. Even when you spot face a drum and press the stud in they can be off until they bolt down tight? Offset is bad on buses. |

I believe the bolt pattern on German rims (VW and Porsche ) is 5 x205 mm. I saw an old post on the forum where someone said the blot pattern on these 16" English rims is 5 x 203mm. In trying to fit the rim on a Porsche drum with wheel studs you can see that this measurement of 5x203 mm is what shows up . You can see in the photos I posted that the hole are off center by just about 2 mm. It would be possible to enlarge the blot holes in the rim so they would pass over the studs ...but the lug nuts or bolts (VW) would never be able to draw down on the center of the chamfer in the holes in the rims. They could be made to bear down on the rims but they would be hitting just the outside radius of the hole in the rim. |

I forgot to mention I have also tried to fit these rims to all four brake drums installed on my car and have the same results. |

I believe I have found the answer Porsche 356 wheel studs are 14 mm in diameter. VW wheels bolts are 12 mm in diameter. The smaller diameter give s a VW owners an extra 2mm of wiggle room to get the bolts in. |

I have been following this discussion and thread carefully because I have three 16" rims and am looking for a fourth. _________________ L'audace! L'audace! Toujours l'audace! |

Mopar/Ford guys argue about this all the time. The new Mopars are 5x115mm and Ford is 5x114.3. You should hear them go on and on about that .7mm.
One guys swears the wheels can't seat correctly, so they are bound to fly off, through the windshield of a school bus packed to the gills with kids, causing it to veer off the road and through a children's hospital. Then another guy will post a series of equations that look like they were made to calculate the space/time continuum and then yet another guy who's like..."seem like they fit fine to me...".
My brother has been running 17" Mopar spares on the back of his 87 Toyota truck for a couple years with no problems.
I say, run em! |

This is a great thread! I just paid for a single Anglia wheel at a good price, and now need at least one more to run on the front of my volks-rod (chopped, channeled, fenderless oval with front beam extended). I'm glad to hear that they'll fit on a wide five drum!
If anyone knows of a good deal on another single, please let me know! |

Hi I know this is an old thread but I have just started looking into this. as has been mentioned the PCD of the 2 wheels is off, but the seat for the bolt / nut is also different the ford uses tapered wheel nuts 7/16 UNF. so the vw bolt is never going to seat or centre the ford wheel 100% correctly. has anyone who has used the ford wheels had any issues? are there marks in the paint on the wheel to show where contact is or isn't being made?
thanks |

I agree with all of your points. I never tried actually driving on mine, and eventually sold them off. I was not comfortable with that very slight mismatch.
You can get repro 16" "Pre-A" wheels at a reasonable price these days, and that's how I eventually scratched that itch. Yes, they are from China, but they seem to be decent quality, and fit 100% (trying them out here with adapters, on my '69 Bug):
EDIT: I have Karmann Ghia disks on the front of my '69 Bug, so I had to use 3/8" spacers in the front, so that the 4-to-5 adapters would clear the disk brake calipers. No spacers in the back, on the stock drum brakes. _________________ Stock Steve

Just want to say to the OP, you had those Ford wheels looking amazing! That said, I would have done the same thing with that slight mis-match. I can't explain why, but this look has really grown on me over the years. I have Porsche brakes on my '74 Super and have acquired a set of formerly 944 steel space saver spares as wheels. Fortunately for me, Porsche 912 hubcaps go straight on.
